Weekly Updates from Mrs. Cervantes - October 3, 2021
Coyote Ridge Families,
Good afternoon! October is a very busy and exciting month with lots of news and activities, so this newsletter is packed full of important info.
Please remember that this Friday is an EARLY RELEASE day for students, so all children will be dismissed at 11:45AM. Please ensure you have arranged for transportation or have someone ready at the bus stop. Staff will be involved in professional learning beginning at noon and will not be able to supervise students. Thank you for your help with this! We also have a school holiday on Monday, October 11th, so there is no school for staff or students on that day.
In this newsletter, you'll find links and information for Field Day, Leader in Me October Family Activity, Chipotle Restaurant Night, Homecoming Parade, Child Nutrition (cafeteria) Job Fair, PTA membership and spirit wear information, and calendar updates.
Thank you for your support, and I hope you have a wonderful week!
Field Day Information
We are so excited to have Field Day this Thursday, Oct. 7th! 3rd-5th grades will have activities in the AM, and K-2 will have activities in the PM. Pre-K is having separate field evens in their own smaller space appropriate for their age.
Parents, since this is an activity during the school day, we have to limit the number of parent visitors/spectators to only TWO per class. While this event is outside, these spectators are still traveling with classes and we need to limit the number of adults for student protection. Your child's teacher sent out a separate, private link for those spots. Spectators will still need to have an active VOLY account complete with background check in order to sign up, as this is still considered a parent volunteer activity for the classroom. The office will have a list of approved visitors, and all will need to check in with the office (with a drivers license/ID) to pick up a volunteer sticker.
Coach Ray also has a need for separate volunteers that will help run the actual stations. There are opportunities for the AM session and the PM session. That volunteer link can be found here: https://lewisvilleisd.voly.org/opportunity/view.html?id=65493
Thank you so much for working with us! We are very fortunate to be able to provide many of our "normal" events and activities with some restrictions, so we appreciate your support and cooperation so much!
Field Day Reminders for students:
- Wear tennis shoes
- Apply sunscreen before school
- Bring a water bottle
- Wear their team color (assigned by classroom teacher) IF POSSIBLE-not required!
- Wear hats (optional)
The Leader in Me - Habit 1: Be Proactive - Family At-Home Activity
This is Coyote Ridge’s 6th year using the Leader in Me Program. In order to continue growth and learning at home, we will send home a newsletter each month that will focus on a different habit. By the end of the year we will have discussed all 8 Habits at school and home. If your family participates in ALL 8 Newsletters, you will be showcased in our school as a Lighthouse Family!
- In your child’s Friday Folder is the October Habit Newsletter. Attached to the newsletter is an activity that corresponds with the monthly habit of October, Habit 1: Be Proactive. There is also a QR code that you can scan and listen to a story with your child and ask discussion questions given from the newsletter. Please assist your child in completing the activity and sign/return the activity sheet to their homeroom teacher by Wednesday, October 6th.
- October 6th is Be Proactive Day! We want to see the entire school wear YELLOW for Habit 1 on Wednesday!
- We will be tracking grade level participation for returning the activity sheet. The grade level with the highest percentage of participation for October will receive extra recess!

Coming Soon! CRE participating in Hebron Homecoming Parade
We are gearing up for the Hebron High School Homecoming Parade and are looking for your support!
Our float theme is the TV show "Friday Night Lights" and we are looking for students who would like to ride along. All students are encouraged to dress up. Examples of characters to dress up as are football players, cheerleaders, band members, referees, etc.- anything associated with High School Friday Night Football (especially blue and white colors)! Students could also wear their Coyote Ridge Elementary Spirit Wear shirts.
Students will be able to ride on the float or walk along side. As part of the tradition the students throw candy to the crowd. Please bring at least one bag of candy per participant. If your child is not able to participate but you would like to donate candy, please bring it to your teacher by October 18th.
We would also love to see as many familiar faces along the parade route as we can!!!
Date: October 20th
Time: meet at 5:00 pm (parade starts around 5:30)
Location: Hebron High School - Exact location will be determined
We will send out an update as soon as we have more information.
Coyote Ridge PTA (Parent-Teacher Association)
Parents, we invite you to join the CRE PTA! Along with spirit wear sales will be online membership and registration. I encourage ALL parents/guardians and staff to join, and we will continue to aim for 100% membership. Your membership in no way obligates you to any specific volunteer tasks or participation in meetings, but we'd love to have you! We proudly aim for 100% CRE staff participation, and we'd love to get as many families in as possible. Grandparents, neighbors, and community members are welcome members as well!
