He will be available to offer his insights and to answer any questions he can about the admissions process as he has seen it play out at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
USSYP for Juniors and Seniors
The United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution in 1962 creating the UNITED STATES SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM (USSYP), a national initiative to provide a yearly opportunity for talented young people with demonstrated leadership abilities to deepen their understanding of America’s political processes and strengthen their resolve to pursue careers in public service. The USSYP brings the highest-level officials from each branch of government together with an outstanding group of high school students — two high school juniors or seniors from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) — during an intensive educational program week held in Washington, D.C.
The program is merit-based and highly competitive. Each student will also receive a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science. Now in its fifty-sixth year, the program has been fully funded since inception by THE HEARST FOUNDATIONS as an enduring commitment to preparing young people for citizenship and leadership in our participatory democracy. More than 5,500 strong, USSYP alumni serve the country in many ways.
Qualified applicants must be:
- a junior or senior high school student;
- able to show demonstrated leadership through public service in elected or appointed positions where they are actively representing a constituency in organizations that relate to government, public affairs, history and/or community service;
- actively serving in qualified leadership positions;
- enrolled in high school; and,
- living in the state they will represent for the entire 2017–2018 academic year.
The deadline for application submission to the Main Office is Friday, September 22. Druid Hills did have a USSYP representative a few years ago - it would be great to send another!
Ga Tech Engineering Career Conference
The Georgia Tech Women in Engineering Program is excited to announce the 18th annual Engineering Career Conference (ECC) for current female junior and senior high school students.
ECC is designed to give high school girls knowledge and information about the eleven engineering disciplines offered at Georgia Tech to help them decide if they'd like to study engineering in college, and, if so, which type of engineering is best for them.
This year's ECC will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 8:30AM to 4:00PM in the Georgia Tech Student Center Ballroom.
