College Credit Options
Half Day Programs: Butler Academies, WSU Tech JumpStart, Andover CAPS
*CAPS is not entirely dual credit. College credit is determined by the chosen program and arrangements made with the CAPS instructors.
Concurrent Credit: These meet at ACHS and the instructor is an ACHS staff member usually. We offer English Comp 1 and 2 (senior English), speech, college algebra, applied statistics, and government. If we offer a concurrent class in our building, students have to take it rather than a dual credit offering of the same course. (Exceptions are made for Butler Academy, WSU Tech, and CAPS students.)
Dual Credit: These meet on Butler's campus. Students are welcome to take classes that we do not offer here in our building.
Steps for Taking a College Class
1. Students need college entrance scores. Students must able to attain these scores in order to continue on the dual or concurrent credit path.
ACT- 18 on English (or cumulative 3.25+ GPA) and/or 21 on Math
Accuplacer Test- Community college/vocational placement test.
2. If using ACT scores, students must complete college admissions application.
3. Visit with your counselor and fill out a High School Release Form.
Andover CAPS
Students are fully immersed in a professional culture, solving real-world problems, using industry-standard tools and are mentored by actual employers, all while receiving high school and college credit. It is in the design phase to determine how best to give students real-world experience while also meeting the needs of businesses in the Wichita area and beyond.
CAPS Create: Aviation, Business & Entrepreneurship, Engineering, Teacher Education, Law Professionals, Medical Professionals, Marketing, or Information Technology
*If your career interest is not listed, you can still sign up for this program.
Junior Individual Meetings
For the last two weeks, the counselors have been meeting with all juniors individually and reviewing their career and post-high school plans. Each student has a copy of the notes we discussed regarding plans as well as classes he or she are considering for next year.
