Caroline County Economic Development Authority Scholarship Application
Eligiblility: Must be a senior planning to attend college, must have financial need, must have leadership experience.

Sally Holland & Wesley Peters Hicks Scholarship
500 word essay required. Essay will be about your chosen college major and professional pursuits.

Local Scholarship:
Captain Earle Worley Scholarship
The scholarship is intended to support post-secondary educational scholarships for qualifying graduates of public or private high schools in Virginia, attending an accredited two- or four-year community college, college or university, or vocational school in the United States who plan to study aeronautics, aerospace, aviation or related engineering.
Deadline: March 7, 2019

Eligibility: Must be an African-American student accepted to a four year college/university with a 3.0 GPA or higher, involved in a sport or club each high school year, and have 10 hours of community service or maintained employment

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority: Maxine M. Newell Scholarship
The Xi Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is offering a $500.00 scholarship.
Eligiblility:
1. The student must be a female graduating senior accepted at an accredited four-year college, university or community college with the intention of transferring to a four-year college or university. 2. The student should have a 2.5 or better grade point average. 3. The student should exhibit outstanding leadership skills. 4. The student should have contributed notable community service. 5. The student must have a financial need. 6. The student must be pursuing a degree in a field that will benefit children.

Alpha Kappa Alpha SorroityThe Maude B. Murchinson Scholarship
The Xi Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is offering a $500.00 scholarship to an outstanding female high school graduate in need of financial assistance.
Eligibility:
1. The student must be a female graduating senior accepted at an accredited four-year college, university or community college with the intention of transferring to a four-year college or university. 2. The student should have a 2.5 or better grade point average. 3. The student should exhibit outstanding leadership skills. 4. The student should have contributed notable community service. 5. The Lauren A. Davies Memorial Scholarship
Must be a senior planning college, tech school, nursing program; must be a physically challenged student with an acute health disorder (physical, neurological, mental, visual, hearing, speech impaired, epileipsy, diabetes, etc). Must have good character.

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Scholarship
Offering three $1000 scholarships!
Eligibility:
Graduating Male, GPA 2.5 or higher, accepted into a college;

State of VA Department of Education:
2019 Granville P. Meade Scholarship
The Virginia Department of Education will award $2,000 per year for selected students attending a Virginia college. The scholarship is dedicated to those who have achieved academically but cannot afford to attend college. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, including one from Mr. Wick.
Deadline: Must be received by the main office by March 15, 2019.

Teen Enrichment Network Scholarship
The Teen Enrichment Network scholarship selection committee is searching for well-
rounded students from the Fredericksburg Region who exhibit creativity, scholastic
ability, evidence of leadership and involvement, service to community or school, and
outstanding character. One $1,000 scholarship and one $500 award.

The Historic Fredericksburg Region AACA Scholarship
$500.00 for senior who will continue their education in Automotive Technologies. This can range from mechanical systems, auto body, and vehicle restoration. Preference will be given to restoration and preservation studies.
Deadline: Must be received by April 1, 2019

Colonial Agricultural Educational Foundation
Offering over 35 different scholarships from $2000-$6500!
Eligibility: Must be a full-time graduating senior planning college in the Fall and meet requirements for that specific scholarship;

Walker Grant Alumni Association Scholarship
Two one-time $1000.00 scholarships. To be eligible you must be a senior planning to attend a college, technical school, or nursing program, and must be a descendant of an individual who attended Walker-Grant School from 1939-1968, have a C average or higher, have financial need, and acceptance to an accredited school/college for Fall 2019.

GERMANNA GET EVENT
Germanna will be coming to Caroline on March 26 from 9:30-11:30 to assist students and parents with applications, FAFSA applications, and to answer questions about Germanna. Watch for email registrations!
GERMANNA DAY
The Career Coach will hold an all-day event for seniors going to Germanna on March 25. Students will be able to complete applications to Germanna, complete online orientations, set up their Germanna portal, make sure their checklist is complete, and explore majors and transfer 4-year schools. This day is to make sure everything is ready for Germanna Course registration, which begins with the Career Coach in April. Watch email for signups!

Steps to becoming a Germanna graduate
Admissions steps may vary for different types of students.
1. Apply online
2. Submit the FAFSA
3. Participate in a required orientation
4. Meet with an advisor or your Career Coach at your high school. Meet with an advisor to discuss career exploration and program options, as well as receive help selecting courses.
5. Register for your courses
6. Pay your tuition and fees and purchase your textbooks
7. Attend a Welcome Day
Decoding Your Award Letter
Make sure you fully understand your financial aid package before committing to a school. In many cases, an award letter can be very difficult to interpret. There will likely be terms that you have not heard of. Here are a few common ones you may see:
1. Federal SEOG: This is a grant from the federal government. You will not have to pay this back.
2. Federal unsubsidized and/or federal subsidized: These are federal student loans that you must pay back.
3. Pell grant: Another grant from the federal government that does not have to be paid back.
4. Federal Parent PLUS loan: This is a federal government loan that is in the PARENT'S name. The parent must pass a credit check.
5. Work-Study: This is money that can be earned from on-campus employment. Typically, work-study jobs will be flexible enough to fit your schedule.
6. VGAP: This is a grant from the state of Virginia for in-state students and does not need to be paid back.
7. VTAG: This is a grant from the state of Virginia for students attending private colleges.

Opportunities for Juniors:
CGS College ForumThe governor's school will hold a College Forum at UMW campus on March 27th from 7 to 8:30 PM. Admissions reps from William and Mary, UVA, and UMW will be there. It will focus on the college admissions process: requirements, essays, and financial aid. This event is free and open to all 10th and 11th grade students.
Questbridge partners with colleges to offer summer programs at top-tier universities. Students receiving this scholarship will attend college classes at a partner university during the summer before their Senior year. The scholarship pays for courses, room and board, and travel expenses. Applicants should have a high level of academic achievement (top 10% of class, PSAT or SAT scores greater than 1280, challenging coursework) and financial need. College Board Opportunity Scholarships
College Board has recently launched its Opportunity scholarships. Students will be given the opportunity to enter random drawings by simply completing the necessary steps of the college process. Questbridge National College Match
This is a competitive, full-ride scholarship. Students who receive the award will be matched to one of Questbridge's 40 college partners. Partners include UVA, Tufts, Stanford, Duke, and more. Applicants should be high-achieving (top 10% of class, 1250+ SAT score) and have financial need (household income below $65,000). Applications open this summer. JA Future Laureate Scholarship
The JA Future Laureate Scholarship competition is an annual scholarship essay contest that awards students from the Central Virginia region a $2,500 scholarship each. This competition is open to the graduation classes of 2020 and 2021 who have participated in at least one JA of Central Virginia program since September 2017.
