Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Matariki Celebration last week, it was fantastic to finally come together as a school community again. A huge thank you to Kelly Savage, her team of TPS parent helpers and TGC and TBC perfects (some of whom are ex-TPS students so that was extra special for us). A big shout out also to Cameron Road Pak n Save for providing the kai for our celebration. School (community) events such as these are only possible with this type of community support - thank you.
Our He Waka Eke Noa pathway was also laid last week to mark the very first Matariki holiday for NZ. Fortunately, we were awarded a Creative Communities Scheme grant which has assisted us to complete this project; thank you Tauranga City Council. The pathway is made of river stones painted by all the TPS children (and staff) in Term 1. The pathway is inspired by the book Only One You written by Linda Kranz. The He Waka Eke Noa pathway celebrates how we all come together as a Tauranga Primary School community, recognising that we are all unique and that we respect and value our differences. Only One You is a beautiful story with many powerful messages that are relevant to us all. Here are a few quotes (words of advice) from the book:
- understand that everyone you meet is just trying to fit in, help them feel at ease
- if you make a wrong turn, circle back
- enjoy every day
- never give up
- do something nice for someone
- think positive thoughts
- enjoy the simple things in life
- treasure your family and friends
- speak your mind gently
- there’s only one you in this great big world, make it a better place
A reminder that we have RAT tests available to distribute to our school community. If you do not have any RATS tests at home, please ask at our school office and we can supply you with enough tests for your family.
The Education and Training Act 2020 states that enrolled students are required to attend school whenever the school is open. However, with Covid separating families for such a long time we do understand that some TPS families will want to reconnect with family overseas, potentially during term time. The process for applying for leave for your children in term time is to send a letter or email to the principal to request leave from school.
Next week is our last week for Term 2, there will then be a two-week school holiday for the children and we will return to school on the 25th of July.

Did you miss our parent information evening about Structured Literacy?
Watch this video - it covers all that was shared :
Teaching juniors - learning long (letter name) and short vowel sounds
FOTS - DISCO
Next term the FOTS will hold adDisco on the 22nd of September. We would like to form a group of parents to help with this event. We need parents to help set up and decorate, a team to help with cleaning up after the junior and/or middle/senior events, a team taking tickets at the door and some to run the snack and drink station.
Usually the Junior Disco runs from 5:00pm - 6:00pm, and the middle/senior one from 6:15pm - 7:15pm. If you can spare some time, please go to the link below and sign up for where and when you can help. Thank you
