Circus Science LIVE!!
A BIG thank you to Mr. Gregory May for presenting to our students on December 22nd.
As a former Ringling Brothers Circus performer and Port Discovery Children’s Museum educator, Mr. May showed RBES students and families fun, exciting feats of juggling, rolling globe walking, lasso spinning, and other amazing tricks to explore Newton’s Laws, Gyroscopic Motion, and Center of Gravity. It was fun for the kids as they were able to engage in activities using household items.
You can find the accompanying try at home instructions here and keep the magic of the circus going!
MLK Day of Service
RBES Day of Service Event:
Dr. Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist in the 1950s and 1960s. He led non-violent protests to fight for the rights of all people including African Americans. He hoped that America and the world could become a place where race would not impact a person’s civil rights. He was considered a great speaker - many of his speeches still inspire us today. You may have heard his “I Have a Dream “ speech. Another famous thing he said was that “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.” Congress designated the third Monday in January the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Your service honors Dr. King's life and teachings and helps make your community a better place.
You may ask what can a kid do to serve while staying safe from a coronavirus? A lot!
BSAP and RBES PTA are partnering the annual RBES Day of Service. We are looking to have our students write letters, make cards or draw pictures for the senior residents at Vantage House. You may not know that they are formal partners with Running Brook and have hosted walking field trips for our students to read and present their hard work.
Ready to get started? Here’s some guidelines for your creations:
1. Letters must be legible (large print) and handwritten. You will be sending me the letter by taking a picture of it or scanning and emailing/inboxing it to me. I will print (in color) all submissions and deliver them to Vantage House.
4. Be creative! Recipients love it when the letters are personal. We encourage you to make your letters colorful and fun– drawings are great! You can also write a simple poem or share some information about yourself (e.g., favorite hobbies, pets, school, etc.). This makes the handmade card a very personal and thoughtful gift for the older person to receive.
5. Be kind & thoughtful. This is a one-way letter exchange, so you will not receive a letter back. Receiving nothing in return is part of the beauty of your act of kindness, and recipients aren’t burdened by feeling obligated or unable to respond.
Letters are due to me by Friday, February 1, 2021. Send to Andrea_Frank@hcpss.org or inbox me through Canvas. You can also put the media book return box in the vestibule of school in case you want to drop your creation off.
*Need some ideas of what to say? There are many examples on-line/Pinterest if you look up “Card messages for seniors”

So much growth in 50 YEARS and our motto shines through it all!
To mark this momentous occasion, the PTA will be hosting several events throughout the 2020-2021 school year to celebrate!

The President's Corner
Hello 2021!!
Mid January is already here and we are but a hop, skip and a jump away from Punxsutawney Phil looking for his shadow! This year we get to witness living history as the country inaugurates the 46th President of the United States. Party lines aside history is taking place and it may be a great asynchronous Wednesday activity to watch and explain the inauguration process to our RBES scholars. As we step into 2021, the PTA is putting a call out to our RBES families.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
We had a goal of having 100 PTA memberships this year and though we have done markedly better than the previous 2-4 years, we are not quite there yet! At this time we are approx. forty (40) memberships away from our goal of 100. Your membership dues of $12 or $17 for a family membership helps support our initiatives and programs like virtual museum tours, student goodie bags and much more!
Feel free to invite your family and friends to support us with a membership. As a 503(c)(3) your membership dues is a non-taxable donation.
I hope through the programming we have led to date this school year the RBES PTA has found a way to reach out and help your student still feel connected to their teachers, classmates and school. We want to continue being that bridge and membership dues help us do that.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us and caring so abundantly about our students.
