Weekly Update

Friday Message 8/21/2020
Good Afternoon Blue Devil Nation,
While forging a path forward through all things coronavirus pandemic in a new school year, I have been impressed with our students and staff who have done a remarkable job of adjusting to a new school format and adhering to the new health guidelines and protocols.
Due to the fluid nature of the pandemic, there are no hard and fast answers because the questions change by the hour, sometimes by the day if we are lucky. However, being surrounded by amazing staff and a supportive community has made a difference beyond words. It provides encouragement and support for all us to stay strong and courageous in the face of many difficult obstacles.
TCSC will communicate district-wide when a positive COVID-19 has been identified in our school district. However, if students are asked to quarantine because of a potential case, we will not be communicating that district-wide because this could happen frequently based on the common symptoms.
Please remember, it's especially important to keep children who have symptoms of COVID-19 or are being tested for COVID-19 at home. Contact the school and report the absence and the reason for the absence.
With high and soon middle school athletics in full force, we need to continue to be diligent on following the recommended guidelines that we know help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on and off the field. To help achieve this, TCSC is currently in Phase 2 of the spectator guidelines, which means we will only allow 250 spectators at athletic events. All spectators will be asked to wear a face-covering and social distance in the stands. More specific information about ticket distribution will be provided by individual buildings.
This next week our task force will meet to determine what our next month of school will look like. We will use data and science to drive our decision making, to determine if our secondary buildings continue in our hybrid model or return to full in-person learning. This decision will be communicated by the end of next week.
In the last two days, both TCSC and our friends at Tri-Central were awarded a $250,000 GEER grant to improve connectivity for our students. The grant will provide approximately 600 wifi hotspots for Tipton county students for the next two years. In addition, our foundation purchased 520 desk screens for both districts for us in K-2. We would like to thank Governor Holcomb and our foundation for their tremendous support during this public health emergency.
We deeply appreciate and value the support and confidence we are receiving as we continue to do our best to provide the safest learning environment for all students and staff. Most families in our district want us to keep our classrooms open and press ahead. Our staff is working harder than ever, under extremely challenging conditions, and with the undaunted dedication to keeping our doors open as long as it is safe to do so.
Thank you blue nation!
