A message from the principal
Greetings Wilson Families,
February is I LOVE TO READ month and Black History month. We are also having our ONLY school fundraiser of the school year, our READ-A-THON, during February. Students should have brought home information on the read-a-thon last week. If you have not seen this, you can reach out to your student's classroom teacher. We will be doing different activities to promote a love of reading this month (see below).
Conferences are this month as well. Please sign up if you haven't already. Our teachers look forward to connecting with you on your student's strengths, what we are currently working on and how we can work together to support your student at school. You can sign up for an in-person or virtual conference (see below).
I hope everyone has a great start to the month of February!
Sincerely,
Chris Forrest
Parent/Teacher conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences will be February 21, 23 and 27. Please use this link to sign up with your child's teacher.
Important message from Wilson
Wilson Read-a-thon fundraiser and 'I Love To Read' month begin February 1st
Wilson Elementary is doing a Read-a-thon for I LOVE TO READ month!
Read-a-thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
Our Read-a-thon starts Wednesday February 1st and ends February 15th.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/TowKms/1 and following the simple instructions.
This will be the only fundraiser this year. Our funds will go to:
1. Enhancing student experiences: Wilson Elementary is partnering with Playworks, a program designed to give all students a great recess experience. Playworks is a program that helps schools rethink recess. Providing new collaborative games and student strategies for conflict resolution.
2. Revitalizing the Media Center: Help Mrs. Voss continue to revitalize the media center with new books.
3. Community Support: Provide food and supply support for families in our school community who need a little help
4. Teacher Appreciation: Classroom supply and snack reimbursement, coffee truck surprises, and conference dinners

Calling all girls - Grades 3-5!
Exciting news: Girls on the Run is coming to Wilson Elementary!
Girls on the Run is an afterschool program that uses the power of running to prepare 3rd - 5th grade girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Over the course of the 10-week, 20-lesson season, girls learn life-changing lessons about healthy friendships, teamwork, decision-making, self-respect and more, all while preparing to run a 5k.
Open to all 3rd - 5th grade girls and non-binary/gender expansive youth; no previous running experience required, and generous financial aid is available.
Registration is open at www.gotrmn.org now! Our season will be each Monday & Wednesday 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. from March 27 - June 4, culminating with the Girls on the Run 5K the weekend of June 2-4. Space is limited so register early! Lottery registration is open February 1-7. Visit www.gotrmn.org or contact Amber Ringwelski at amber.ringwelski@ahschools.us for more information.

Volunteer news
Wilson Volunteers- Thank you for an awesome month of support this January. As a team we have logged over 25 hours of volunteering, 16 of which were solely dedicated by Theresa Myers to reading with our kindergarteners! We also helped keep the Lost and Found area “under controlled chaos” and spent an amazing evening serving food and connecting with families at our EL Family night. A big thank you to those who signed up to chaperone the 5th Grade trip to Northrup that was unfortunately cancelled last minute.
You might notice new QR codes hanging around the school; those link directly to some of our current opportunities at Wilson, so please scan and check those out.
*Did you know the Anoka Hennepin district offers training for K-skills, Math + and Challenge Reading for free (also very simple to follow) for volunteers? The training is an online module and takes minimal time. These training courses along with working with struggling students can have a positive impact on their educational experience.
We are always looking for more volunteers! Please feel free to reach-out to me any time to check and see what our current opportunities are and how to become a Wilson volunteer.
