Hark! The Herald
Friday, April 19th, 2019
Christ became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. -Phil 2: 8-11
During these final days of Lent, please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
We are all part of a small but mighty community of families, joined together through the bonds of family, and the desire for greatness for our children. It has been a wonderful Lenten Season in the classrooms and hallways of SMS. The students and teachers have worked hard academically, have engaged in really meaningful discussions of faith and Christ, and supported one other through the dark final days of winter and Lent. It has been a joy to witness.
On Easter Sunday, there will be so much to celebrate!
We hope you all have a restful Easter Break, and that you come back refreshed and ready to tackle the final two months of school!
Families and parishioners are encouraged to participate in all of the activities and masses that take place during Holy Week.

As the weather warms up, just a reminder about our Extended Care Program
We offer a licensed extended care program at Saint Michael School to help families cover the gaps between work and school hours.
- Anyone 12 and under who is found in the building during non-school hours will be asked to head down to the extended care room, and the family will be billed accordingly.
- Any students 13 and older must wait outside until the building is open in the morning, and needs to find someplace safe to go at dismissal.
We simply do not have staffing available to supervise children that are not in our extended care program. With the warm days recently, we have had students outside waiting to get picked up at the end of the day. If someone got hurt, there are no adults present to help them. We also have noticed unfamiliar people from around town walking down Walnut Street as they cut through the playground to head someplace, to visit the rectory, church, or St Brigid's etc.
We cannot have unsupervised children on the school grounds or in the building unless they are part of our program, or meeting for a school sponsored event like sports or tutoring. Some families make arrangements to meet at the library, or a local restaurant like Subway.
Please make sure that you talk with your 13+ student about a plan for dismissal if you have to pick them up later in the day. Thank you so much for your help in keeping all of our students safe.
Congratulations are in order!
The winner of the Race for Education t-shirt contest is......HELENA VALIN!!!!
Congratulations Helena, we can’t wait to showcase your design on our Race for Education t-shirts for race day!!!
Parent Survey is Closed:
The School Board met this past Tuesday evening to close the parent survey, and draw the names of the winners for the two gift cards:
Congratulations to Brandy Smith and Inga Paluch. Thank you to the 79% of families who participated! While Mrs. O’Neil did not win the bet with Mrs. Beam, it was still a record % for participation.
We collected invaluable feedback, which we will be reviewing in the weeks ahead as we go about planning for the 2019-2020 school year. As soon as all the results are compiled and put into a meaningful presentation, we will share them with you! THANK YOU!!!
If you want a free SMS Embroidered sweatshirt, please enroll your students this coming week!
If you submit a completed enrollment packet here (online documents and $175 enrollment fee) for your family by April 30th, each of your children will receive a beautiful Saint Michael School quarter-zip sweatshirt, embroidered with the SMS logo.
There will be no exceptions, as we need to place a custom order for sizes. I will be checking email daily over break and I would be happy to make time to speak over the phone if you need help.
Again, the deadline to complete enrollment and receive the incentive sweatshirt is April 30th, 2019.
The Online Enrollment Portal is OPEN!
The enrollment packet should be completed by the person who is responsible for student enrollment, i.e the "primary parent or guardian".
Here is the link you need to get started:

Looking for some parent volunteers
We have some exciting events on the horizon but they will require some parent helpers:
- check in with your teachers... they are all planning end of year class trips. They will need drivers and chaperones to accompany them.
- Race for Education in May
** Finally, WE NEED SOME HELP IN OUR KITCHEN!**
Could you spare an hour here and there to help Bobbi Jo with dishes after lunch service. Anytime after 12:30 pm would be extremely helpful.
She is a magician in the kitchen but she is preparing 3 meals a day for 115 kids... with NO HELP! If you would like to come in and provide some sunshine in someone's day, this would be the way to do it. It doesn't have to be daily but anything you can give would be a gift.
Breakfast Lunch and AMP Menus

If you would like your child to have breakfast, please make sure they order it the day beforehand.
