In Puerto Rico, family is the center of everything and is to be considered to be the key to a successful life and generation
Gender Roles
The male family figures provide for the house and in some conditions the mom will try to provided for the family also.
Children and parents
They have very close relationships and usually support the family when older and take care of the grandparents
Mothers and Daughtrs
They tend to be very close and supportive of the family. Most don't leave the house until married.
Grandparents
The children take the most responsibility in taking care of the grandparents when they grow old but most have been sent to nursing homes because of lack of money and political issues in the family.
Family Structure
Families are close-knit and supportive. Extended families usually do not share a household, but they often live in the same neighborhood or town. Grandparents often take care of the smaller children when the parents are away or at work.
Interesting facts
when naming the child they often name them by combining traditional names.
