Instructional Tips

Blended Learning: Station Rotation Model

A great way to become a true facilitator and introduce small group learning in your classroom.

Station Rotation — a course or subject in which students experience the Rotation model within a contained classroom or group of classrooms. The Station Rotation model differs from the Individual Rotation model because students rotate through all of the stations, not only those on their custom schedules.

STEAM House Hoodies!

Houses are an important part of the positive school culture developing at STEAM. The STEAM House experience includes healthy competition, camaraderie, support, and excitement for staff and students.

As a result, STEAM PTO is hosting a fundraiser providing students with the opportunity to purchase a House hoodie or t-shirt. Hoodies and t-shirts will be available in House colors or gray and will include the House name and STEAM logo on the front.

Please click below to order a STEAM House hoodie and/or t-shirt via online form. Orders must be completed and payments received by December 15. Upon completion of the online form, you will receive a confirmation email that includes the total monetary amount due and an order summary.

Ask Brandon Answers

What is HEART academy and should the new hires be going to it?

HEART Academy is BISD's Teacher Induction Program. It is for first year teachers. These teachers are assigned campus mentors and meet periodically to discuss pertinent topics that support teachers during their first year.

How do the grading guidelines for students with extended time work? Do they have longer than the five days to complete an assignment for late work? Can they take in-class assignments out of the classroom? If they take in class assignments out of the classroom are they then counted as homework and take away from real homework time?

Students who have extended time will have a specified time period for extended time in their IEP or 504 Accommodation Plan. The five days will begin once the extended time has been provided. In-Class assignments can be taken home at the teacher's discretion. If a teacher provides extended time for a student by allowing him/her to take the assignment home, it should be counted in the same category as all other students.

Can I give a student a 79 or 89 for the six weeks? I know I can't give a 69, but I have heard I must also raise 79 and 89s for the six weeks...

It is completely ok to give a student grades of 79 or 89. Just be sure that you round up when figuring your grades.
