Read to Succeed

In order to boost students' interest and scores in independent reading, all students will be participating in Six Flags' Read to Succeed program! Every student is required to read for a total of 6 hours between now and December 2nd. Each time they read, they will log what they read, for how many minutes, and get you to initial. Students can hand the log in once they have completed the 6 hours or on December 2nd. In exchange, I will award them 6 independent reading points (equal to 6 AR points or 12 Reading Plus lessons) AND a free Six Flags ticket! The ticket can be used anytime over the summer and I will hand them out towards the end of the year.

Donate to our Class!

We are less than $200 away from our goal!

Donors Choose is an awesome website that allows teachers to post projects that will benefit their students. In the past, I have posted projects for 30 Kindles (which we will be using next semester to read The Outsiders), books for our classroom library, basic supplies, and much more! The teacher gets to pick the items and people from all over the country fund the project. It is a really cool way for students to see that complete strangers are willing to help out when it comes to the education they receive. Please consider donating to my latest project:

Magazines Keep Lessons Current!**

**Give to my classroom by 11/12 and your donation will be doubled thanks to DonorsChoose.org. Just enter the code SPARK on the payment page and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $100).

If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks.

Quarter 2 Novel

We have started working with our quarter 2 novels!

Periods 2-5 are reading The Cay (should have completed through chapter 7 by Friday afternoon)

Period 6 is reading Seedfolks (should have completed through chapter 3 by Friday afternoon)

If students miss a day of in class reading, they will need to make it up at home. The Cay can be found by clicking here. I will send a copy of Seedfolks in my next weekly email. I request that students not get ahead in their reading, as it can be confusing when answering discussion questions in class and on quizzes.

Book Fair

My classes will be visiting the school's book fair on Wednesday, November 18th and Friday the 20th. The first day is intended to be a "preview day" when kids will get a chance to decide what they might want to purchase; the 20th is meant to be a "buy day" when kids can purchase what they want to. If you would like your child to purchase something from the book fair, please send cash in with your child on the 20th.
