GCISD Reads Deadline
GCISD Reads is a district initiative that encourages our students to read throughout the year. I know most of you have promoted this through your classroom reading this year. The district wants to see the impact this program is having across the district as well as recognize the students who completed the goal by sending them a certificate.
You can provide the district this information in two ways:
1. Go to the following link and input the student reading information
2. Email me a list of your students and their pages read and I will input them in for you.
Deadline for having information input: May 1, 2017
If you or parents need more information about this program, visit the library website:http://gatorzread.weebly.com/gcisd-reads.html
Breakout EDU
Let me know if you would like to give it a try!
Weeded Books- Come and get them!
Just wanted to know I have pulled some books to be weeded that are from the 90s. I am expecting a HUGE order of new books before the end of the year so I am making room for them by weeding some books that have had LOW checkouts or are more than 15 years old.
The books I have currently pulled are picture books.
You are welcome to come and look through to see if there are any that you could use in your classroom or make sure there aren't any you might use with your lessons. Some may be a little newer but may be duplicates. They are in my office. They have the barcode marked through to make sure they don't end up back in the library.
Take any and all you want! I will be sending them to be repurposed in a few weeks.
Nepris - Real World Connections with Industry Professionals
I have recently signed us up for a 3-month trial membership with Nepris. If you don't know what Nepris is, here is a brief description:
"Nepris connects teachers and students with the right industry experts, virtually without having to spend much planning time or leaving the classroom while providing an effective way for companies to extend education outreach and create equity of access."
If you are interested in trying it out:
1. Visit the following website: https://www.nepris.com
2. Login at: Login: ghes Password: gators
3. Add information for who you would like to connect with
As always, I am more than glad to help with this so just shoot me an email! I am often able to easily find connections without going through Nepris but am curious how much more efficient Nepris will be for us. I will make a decision as to whether it is cost-effective to subscribe in the Fall so try it out if you have a need!
Makerspace Update
You have all done a wonderful job exposing your classes to our Makerspace. I am looking at this Spring as an experimental time as we all try out the Makerspace and see how it will benefit our students....whether it is a brain break from heavy curriculum, allowing them to use their creative juices, or using the materials as a connection to your curriculum. So far, we have been able to use it in all of these ways.
