The current definition of a gifted student was created in 1972! Six percent of K-12 students in the United States are reported as gifted. Gifted students do not develop faster than their peers on a social and emotional level.
Can their ever really be an acceptable blanket assessment to measure giftedness? There have been many changes in this world since 1972, is it time to update the definition of giftedness?
I can remember that even my gifted students still need my help on many different levels. I can still and will still teach them.
