Dear Parents,
We're still working in our Rocks Study. We also introduced the topic of fossils which can be found by excavating under rocks. Of course, students are SUPER excited (DINOSAURSSS!!!) and it has been a BLAST!
Getting to know all the cool things we can do with rocks and exploring their features is making kids aware of their surroundings and is helping them get involved with nature. They have been learning some BIG words too, so make sure you establish a conversation with them and talk about fossils, paleontologists and minerals!
Before wrapping up our study, we're going to investigate some more and we're gonna get ready to go on our Carnival Break, celebrating SPIRIT WEEK!
Spirit week is about showing how proud we are to be members of the ISP Community!
Remember there are specific dress codes for those days and that there's a Home-School connection activity in which you can talk and ask your children about their favorite things in ISP!
Next week, we will keep talking about fossils and we will talk about a natural satellite the moon. It's gonna be a fun and busy week, let's rock it!!!
FIELD TRIP, FIELD TRIP
We look forward to our field trip next week as a great closure of our unit. Thank you for sending in those permission slips on time!

Spirit Week
Spirit Week is right around the corner in the Elementary School!!! We encourage all students to participate by coming to school dressed for each daily theme. Parents can come to school on Friday during our water games. It will take place in our PK area. For the Water Games in PK every student must bring a change of clothes (to change after the games) a towel with your child’s name, a sunblock and a plastic bag to put wet clothes in after this activity. Students and their clothes have to be dry before they can get on the bus. Our water games will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. after the water games students will have their regular classes.
Special note from our school Nurse
Frequent hand washing is probably the best way to control virus transmission; however, viruses are also air-borne so it is not that easy to control all. In school we have protocols for hand washing plus sneezing and coughing. The school Administration have also installed several hand sanitizing devices out and inside the ES cafeteria; they also provide your classrooms with alcohol gel hand wash and Lysol.
Children should stay home when ill, that is something that a parent will decide. If a child gets sick in school or develops a fever, we send them home; we also send them home if they come sick from home.
We do not send mails to families warning them about viruses...they are all over...children should come back to school when they are well and are not taking medicines for fever.
The changes of weather, heat/cold changes are also part of the problem.
I truly hope your kids are all better by now... Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

PK Field Trip Announcement
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we wrap up our unit on rocks, we want to celebrate their learning and accomplishments with something special. We will be visiting “Mi Pueblito” to learn about rocks, different building materials and how they are made from the Earth’s resources. We will also review math, art, and other science concepts during this time.
For this field trip, we will be leaving school on Thursday February 16th at 8:30 am and coming back at 2:00 pm. We will be using the school buses as a means of transportation to and from “Mi Pueblito”. If you wish to be a chaperone for this trip, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Only 2 of the parent chaperones can ride the bus with us to “Mi Pueblito”, other parents that wish to come must find their own transportation. Student fees will be taken care of by the school, but any parents/chaperones that wish to attend must pay their entrance fee (Panamanians $1, Foreigners $3).
On the day of the field trip, students should come to school wearing jeans and their PE shirt. Students should also be wearing sun screen, and bring a cap to protect them from the sun. Each student should also bring a lunch box with a water bottle, snack, and cold lunch. On this day, using disposable bags for a lunch box is preferable for things not to get lost.
If you would like for your child to participate in this field trip, please sign the attached permission slip and send it to school no later than Wednesday February 8th 2017.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
