the world's first atom bomb was dropped on the japanese city of hiroshima on august 6 1945. the explosion wiped on 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would be killed from radiation exposure. three days later and a second bomb was dropped on the city of nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people.
story of the peace crane
is about a young girl named sadako sasaki. she was born in hiroshima in 1943, japan. she was two years old when the atom bomb dropped. for the few years she seemed to grow up happy and healthy. by the end of 1954 sadako caught a cold and bumbs developed around he neck, she was diagnosed with leukemia. she later died at the age of twelve.
1000 cranes of hope project
this is an ancient japanese tradition of senbaruzu,in which someone folds 1000 origami cranes in order to get one wish. these wishes usually include things such as long life or recovery from illness
