From the Principal
I hope everyone is looking forward to the long weekend. Our students have worked very hard this nine weeks so this is a great opportunity for them to get a little extra rest or do something fun! When they get back on Tuesday, it will be the start of the second grading period. Report cards will be released next Friday and if you have any questions or concerns, please email your child's teacher.
Thank you for all you do to support your child's education!
Have a great weekend!

Gifted & Talented Parent Information Night
We will be having a Gifted and Talented Parent Information Night on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 5:30 PM. This is for parents of students who are currently served in the Gifted and Talented Program. This meeting will be held on Zoom. The purpose of this event is to provide you with insight into how your child will be challenged in the classroom this year. Additionally, you will also gain understanding about the Texas Performance Standards Project (TPSP) that all GT-identified students will complete this year. The zoom link for that night is linked below.

Conroe ISD - Electronic Devices Policy
Please see the information below from the Student Code of Conduct:
The District permits students to possess personal cell phones for safety purposes. Generally, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing. The use of any device that has the capability to take pictures or audio or video record is prohibited in restroom areas. These items are also prohibited if used to cheat, audio/video record, or photograph another student or staff member without that person’s permission, or when the use creates a disruption.
If your child has a cell phone/smartwatch, please remind him/her to not use it during the school day. Students are not to send texts or take pictures with personal devices between the hours of 7:30-3:30. If you have a need to get in contact with your child during the school day, please call the school or email your child's teacher.

October is national dyslexia awareness month
Myths and Misunderstandings Surrounding Dyslexia
Myth: Dyslexics see things backwards.
Truth: Dyslexia has nothing to do with vision, and dyslexics do not see letters or words backwards. Dyslexia is a processing issue in which students struggle with the manipulation of speech sounds to print. It is normal for beginning readers to transpose letters when learning how to read.
Myth: The child just needs to try harder.
Truth: It is not a matter of effort. A dyslexic student needs more time to read and write, it is not a matter of being lazy, or not trying. Dyslexic students need appropriate instruction and accommodations.
Myth: Dyslexics aren't smart.
Truth: Dyslexia is not an issue of intelligence. People with dyslexia are quite intelligent, and are often very fast and creative thinkers.
Myth: Dyslexia goes away.
Truth: Since dyslexia is a different organization of the brain, dyslexia is lifelong. Dyslexia is not a disease, therefore there is not a "cure" for dyslexia. With appropriate intervention, dyslexics can become proficient readers and writers.
Bush Volunteers Needed
We are in need of volunteers to assist with our morning Carline and Moveable Minutes. Carline is from 7:30-8:30 and you can simply report to the front ramp and assist. We LOVE the help!
For Moveable Minutes, each morning between 7:30-8:10, students of a particular grade are able to have some extra morning activity before school begins while their teachers meet as a team. You can assist with any grade level, but if you are interested in attending when your student is participating, the schedule is as follows: Mondays - 2nd; Tuesdays - 4th; Wednesdays - 3rd; Thursdays - KG; Fridays - 1st
Please remember when volunteering inside the building, you will need to check in at the front desk with your driver’s license. Click here to sign up.

Art Teachers Need your help
Art can use your help to upcycle some things from your home. Art is collecting empty paper towel rolls/toilet paper rolls, empty cereal boxes, cardboard egg crates and small empty box containers about the size of your hand. These items will be used for armatures for students' sculptures. Please drop these items off in the front office or send in with your child.
Thank you,

Ms. Bright - kbright@conroeisd.net
Reporting Student Absences
To report an absence for your child, do one of the following:
- Call our attendance line at 936-709-1610 and leave a message stating your child’s name, reason for the absence, person reporting the absence, and a phone number.
- Email the registrar – srandall@conroeisd.net with your student’s absence information.
When your child returns to school, a note explaining the absence should be brought to their teacher, front office, or the attendance office.
Lost & Found
The weather will begin to cool soon, and the children will begin wearing sweaters and jackets. Please remember to label these articles clearly with your child’s name. Also don’t forget to label water bottles, backpacks, and any other personal items. If your child misplaces an item please remind them to check in the lost and found located in the front lobby.
Lunch Visitor Information
There will be a visitor table located in the gym/cafeteria by the bleachers. Please plan to arrive at school 5 -10 minutes before your student's lunch time. You will need to come into the front office, have your ID scanned, and receive a visitor badge. With limited seating you will only be able to have lunch with your student. Once your lunch time is complete you will walk back to the front of the building and check out in the front office. Please be sure to have your badge visible at all times. There is no need to sign-up ahead of time.

CISD Transportation
The district has a transportation department responsible for routing buses and managing the bus drivers. If you ever have a question about a route, drop off/pick up locations, drop off/pick times, and/or a bus driver, the best way to ensure your question is directed to the right person is to submit a "Contact Transportation" form. This form may be accessed by clicking the link below: Contact Transportation
Transportation Changes
Transportation changes must be made in writing before 2:00 PM. We cannot accept transportation changes by phone. To submit a transportation change, you may send a written note to your child's teacher or provide a not to the front office with the following information:
- the date
- your child's full name
- homeroom teacher
- bus number (if applicable)
- your signature
If an emergency arises, you may send an email to bush@conroeisd.net. The e-mail must include all of the above information and must be received before 2:00 PM. If you submit a transportation change by email, it must go to the email address referenced above. Teachers do not check their email regularly throughout the day, so transportation changes should not be emailed directly to the teacher. Please send a new note for each day the change occurs; we cannot accept notes for multiple days or with multiple changes. District policy states that a student may only ride the bus they are registered to ride; students may not have a transportation change to ride a different bus.

Classroom Counseling Lessons
We are so excited to have completed visiting all of the classrooms for our first round of counseling lessons. We love seeing our students and helping them learn more about themselves and others. See below for topics covered in each grade-level lesson.
Kinder - We read the book Glad Monster, Sad Monster and matched colors with different emotions. We then used those colors to fill in the color in our Magic Feeling Coloring Book. We discussed that it is okay to express feelings.
1st - We read The Feelings Train and talked about the different emotions the train went through and how the train calmed himself down after being angry. We discussed a breathing coping mechanism.
2nd Grade - We read the book The Way I Feel and discussed the many different feelings we may have. Students learned that all feelings are ok and feelings change often. We also practiced identifying feelings in others with a feelings charade game.
3rd Grade - Third graders worked on identifying feelings and character traits of all the characters in Goldilocks and The Three Bears. We discussed the difference between positive and negative character traits and how our actions may affect others’ feelings.
4th Grade - The topic of our 4th Grade lesson was Thoughts/Feelings/Behaviors. We discussed how it’s the thoughts in our heads that lead to our feelings and how those feelings may affect our actions. We also practiced replacing unhelpful thoughts with helpful thoughts to influence the way we feel and make better choices with our actions.
If you would like to request that your student visit with their counselor, please use the QR code to make a referral.
