Ms. Warnement's Project to boost outdoor stem opportunities for K-1 students

The Tennessee Rural STEM Collaborative (TRSC) is a year-long cohort of educators from across Tennessee that works towards ensuring that all students have access to high-quality learning opportunities in STEM by exposing them to 21st Century Skills and local STEM career pathways. Ms. Warnement has been chosen as one of 51 educators in Tennessee to participate this year.

Ms. Warnement's focus is to give K/1 students agency and autonomy at Jack Anderson - make it their school by encouraging their input and help in improving their play area - the grassy area gets muddy and isn’t kid friendly - it’s beautiful but not always functional. Plus, with COVID, we want them to spread out more. Ms. Warnement wants the students to help create an outdoor space that’s inclusive for all students, calming, TN focused (plant life) and useable year-round for those kids who don’t want to run every day. The goal is to incorporate a STEM project that will allow K/1 students to own their space through their own ideas and work.

To help achieve this goal Ms. Warnement is looking for donations of the following:

  • lumber for flower beds
  • railroad ties for flower beds
  • old tires (large and small)
  • concrete paint
  • spray paint
  • dirt for flower beds and planting
  • help building flower beds and gardens 🙂

If you'd like to help please email: ashley.warnement@sumnerschools.org

Student Lunches

We are so grateful that Sumner County is able to provide breakfast and lunch for all students free of charge. We use the breakfast and lunch menu (links below). However, with the sudden change and the increase in students eating hot lunch, cafeterias around the county did not have enough food favorites (i.e., pizza) on hand, and some students may have eaten something other than what was shown on the menu.

Our amazing cafeteria manager has been able to adjust orders, so moving forward, it shouldn't be an issue.

In the future, we will communicate lunch switches electronically. Thank you for understanding!
