ConVal High School Happenings - October 14, 2022
Message from Principal McKillop
Good Afternoon, Cougar Nation!
It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the month of October. This week, we were grateful for some mild temperatures which enabled many students to spend some extra time outside.
In reading through this newsletter, please be sure to read the two classroom snapshots and to mark your calendars to see And Then There Were None ... by Agatha Christie this November in the Lucy Hurlin Theater. More information, such as the online ticket link and performance dates, is provided below. Congratulations go out to the ConVal High School students who were recently accepted into the January 2023 Monadnock Valley Music Festival (MVMF). I look forward to watching the ConVal Drama production next month and to supporting our very talented students at the Festival in January!
This week and next week, many of our senior student athletes either participated or will participate in their respective senior night games. Thank you to our seniors for representing ConVal athletics and for your commitment to team and sportsmanship, and good luck to all of our teams competing this afternoon/evening.
We have recently posted crisis information in various places within the high school to support our students. The crisis text line provides free, 24/7 high quality, text-based mental health support. Text HOME to 741741 to reach a volunteer crisis counselor or message the Crisis Text Line on Facebook Messenger. We encourage any student who would like to see their school counselor to use our new online booking system to make an appointment.
Have a wonderful weekend, and GO COUGARS!
Best,
Heather

SUMMER PROGRAMMING SURVEY
Please see this note from the District Director of Learning Recovery:
As the Director of Learning Recovery, I want to be sure that our programming is designed to support all students. With that, I would like your feedback regarding the Summer Programming offered this past summer.
While I have heard from many of the families whose children attended Explore and Expand and Summer Academy this past summer, I would like feedback from families of students who did not attend. Your feedback will help us to make adjustments and increase access to our summer programs.
Using this link, please complete this 4 question survey. If you have multiple students at different levels, please complete the survey for each level.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Amy Janoch, Director of Learning Recovery

CLASSROOM SNAPSHOTS!
Ms. England's Physics Class
Students in Physics are learning about momentum and collisions in one dimension. In this experiment they were tasked with the assignment to roll a specific number of marbles down a matchbox track at a certain slope, the data collected was representing the idea of force being transferred from one marble into another. It was an interesting lab where students were able to experience how elastic collisions work.

Career & Technical Education

FREE HVAC101M CLASS!
Due to high demand an additional section of the FREE HVAC101M class is now available to sign up for!
The additional time will be: Saturdays beginning October 29th running from 10:45am to 1:15pm.
The class is FREE due to the Early College Governor’s STEM scholarship!
Taking HVAC101M in the fall prepares students to continue with HVAC classes (also FREE) in the Spring! This is a great opportunity for any high school student looking to explore HVAC as a possible career choice. HVAC101M is a three-credit college course that could propel an HVAC career or at least be used as an open elective toward any college degree.
How can Career and Technical Education (CTE) serve your students?
Did you know that all students in NH in grades 10-12 are eligible to participate in CTE programs ranging from accounting and agriculture to visual & performing arts and welding and everything in between? (Check out what CTE programs are offered in NH!) In fact, CTE also supports students down to grade 5 with career exploration activities and resources!
The CTE center that serves students in the Conant, ConVal, and Mascenic school districts areas is the Region 14 Applied Technology Center (ATC). CTE gives students real-world, hands-on experience in a variety of employment fields and offers opportunities for dual credit courses and Industry-Recognized Credentials that can give students an advantage after graduation.
We have an opportunity to have our CTE center renovated as part of the 2026-2027 biennium in the State budget. We want to make sure that our center best meets the needs of our students and community by preparing them for job opportunities available locally as well as nationally and world-wide. Would you please help by giving your input? Thank you for your help as we work to make the Region 14 Applied Technology Center meet the needs of our students and community.
