Thank Your Leaders!
Summer Animal Science Contests
We are excited that Wyatt Hubbard, from Elm Creek, will be our 2019 Otoe County 4-H Summer Intern. Wyatt has offered to prepare Otoe County 4-H members to participate in livestock judging, livestock quiz bowl, and the livestock skill-a-thon at PASE. Wyatt competed in the livestock judging. Wyatt and his team members competed at the National Skill-A-Thon competition in Louisville, Kentucky after winning the Nebraska 4-H Skill-A-Thon competition at PASE.
PASE, Premier Animal Science Events, is designed to help youth learn about issues related to the animal industry, explore career opportunities that are available, compete with other teens from across the state and have FUN! The event is sponsored by Nebraska 4-H, the College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Nebraska Investment Finance Authority.
We would like to form teams that would practice during May and June. These teams would represent Otoe County at PASE Monday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 18. Age ranges are 10 to 18 as of December 31. For the livestock judging, livestock quiz bowl and the livestock skill-a-thon, there are two divisions – intermediate (10-13) and senior (14 and older).
If interested in practicing and competing at PASE, please contact the Extension Office at 402-269-2301 or via email at otoe-county@unl.edu. Practices will begin Wednesday, May 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
2019 National 4-H Raise Your Hand campaign!
The Raise Your Hand campaign, held from April 1 through May 15, is a nationwide call-to-action for 4-H alumni, supporters, and friends to vote for their state to win funding and help more kids in their community benefit from 4-H experiences. The three states with the most hands raised will receive $20K, $10K, and $5K. Last year, Nebraska 4-H, with over 14,000 hands raised, received second place. This year, you can help us reach #1! Raise Your Hand and vote for Nebraska 4-H. Voting is easy, and even if you have raised your hand in the past, your vote will still be counted this year! Raise Your Hand now at https://4-h.org/raise-your-hand/.
Learn more about this year’s campaign, Nebraska 4-H’s promotion, and what you can do to help by visiting https://newsroom.unl.edu/announce/4hstaff/9410/55321.
