Blue Point Weekly E-Note

MESSAGE FROM MRS. MARTIN
It has been so great to see families registering for Kindergarten this week. There have been familiar faces and brand new ones. The smiles and energy that this spring ritual has brought to our front office has felt hopeful of the positive changes that are coming this fall.
The PTA has outdone themselves again! Our teachers have been pampered and spoiled this week. Our wonderful PTA has really made an effort to provide staff with a boost all throughout the year and we really appreciate it. Thank you to all who contributed to this effort. It means a lot to us.
We know it has been a challenging year that has put the balance of work, home, school, family, friends, and personal time (what's that?) way off kilter. I just want every family to know how much I appreciate the sacrifices that have been made. They don't go unnoticed.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Kelly Martin

Virtual Author Visit at Blue Point School!
If your child is learning remotely on Tuesday they can go to the Scarborough Kids’ Website on the morning of the event and will find the live stream link there. The event will be recorded. Please note, your child will need to be logged in using the school-issued Chromebook in order to view the event and will not be able to interact with the teacher during this event.
Samara Cole-Doyon will be reading sections of her book Magnificent Homespun Brown which she wrote in celebration of her Haitian and Maine roots. Magnificent Homespun Brown is a beautiful book! It won the Coretta Scott King Award for illustration, it is listed on the New York Public Libraries' Best Children's Books of 2020 list AND it won the Lupine Award last week! Soon your child will be bringing home their own copy of the book as well!
This event and book is thanks to a Scarborough Education Foundation grant received by SHS teacher and instructional coach, Michelle Shupp and the SHS Civil Rights Club.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Maine!
This year's theme is “Stop. Check. Prevent.”
This reminds us to stop and practice tick prevention measures frequently. The easiest way to avoid tick borne diseases is preventing tick bites. Please remember to:
- Use caution in areas where ticks may be found.
- Wear light-colored clothing that covers arms and legs.
- Use an EPA approved repellent such as: DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
- Perform tick checks on yourself, family members, and pets daily and after any outdoor activity. Take a shower after exposure to a tick habitat to wash off any crawling ticks.
