Willow Parent Bulletin #9
October 21, 2022
busy, busy, busy...
Band, you ask? I'm sure you've heard of the Willow Way: Be safe, Be Caring, Be Ready. Your Wildcat earns Willow Wows when staff observes him/her/them following these tenets. The wows are a hot commodity. Every two weeks the "Wow cart" comes around chocked full of goodies to "purchase." The band is one of those options. On designated Fridays, students will march the building and out front playing instruments. The really fun part this year is that some of the HF High School band is coming to play with us!
Last night on my way home I found a coat under the buddy bench. Unfortunately there was no name on it, so it ended up in the lost and found. Please label your child's belongings. We received water bottles from Delta Dental and passed those out to the classrooms. The downside... all 600 are the same. If your child is using his/her/their new one, please use a permanent marker to identify the owner.
On the east side of the building, in the front, I have put cones out. We have some robust pot holes along that section. PLEASE pull all the way down and NEVER let your Wildcat off in the street. Your child's safety is important to us. Being in a hurry or thinking the rules don't apply to everyone makes drop off unsafe for everyone. We need you to do your part, too.
Halloween parties and the parade will be on the 31st. If your child doesn't celebrate, please let the teacher know ahead of time. We will have an alternate activity that day. If your child needs help coming up with a costume, please also let the teacher know and we will see what we can do.
The weekend looks to be amazing! Have fun and be safe!

attendance
Research on school attendance shows:
- Your child’s regular attendance may be the greatest factor influencing his/her academic success.
- Students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who do not.
- Children chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of third grade.
Here is how you can support your child’s attendance:
- Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Ensure your students go to school every day unless they are truly sick.
- Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
- Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.
A “truant” is a child subject to compulsory school attendance who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for a school day or portion thereof.
Chronic or habitual truant – A “chronic or habitual truant” is a child who is subject to compulsory school attendance and who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for 5% percent or more of the previous 180 regular attendance days. Students who are identified as chronic or habitual truants will be reported to the appropriate authority at the Intermediate Service Center.
If your child's attendance is a concern, you will receive notice at Parent-Teacher Conferences.
