School Materials Collection - May 26-29
If your child(ren) have textbooks, Chromebooks, instruments, library books, or any other school materials we would like to begin collecting them the week of May 26. As you drive through the 4th Street parking lot near the main office entrance, you will be met by OEMS staff that will take the items from you. Some of our teaching staff will be on hand for the collections. We will be sure to follow public health guidelines to increase the safety of all.
If you are returning a Chromebook, we can offer a paper packet in exchange for the last week of Distance Learning. The packets will be prepared in advance and ready for you throughout the week.
All rental orchestra and band instruments must be returned to OEMS. We are working on a process for summer instrument rental, but that won't take place until all instruments are returned, disinfected, and considered for summer maintenance.
Thank you for helping us retrieve thousands of textbooks, hundreds of instruments and hundreds of Chromebooks. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Tuesday, May 26: 6th Grade 9am - 3pm
Wednesday, May 27: 7th Grade 9am - 3pm
- Thursday, May 28: 8th Grade 9am - 3pm
- Friday, May 29th All grades 9am - 1pm
If you have children in more than one grade level, you may return all items any day of the week. You do not need to make two special trips.

Duluth Schools Grade Reporting During Distance Learning
Duluth Public Schools has worked to create a Distance Learning Grading System that will ensure no student is academically disadvantaged based on their ability to participate. We know there is no perfect system and understand there will be some confusion to work through. In these emergency circumstances, the MN Department of Education released guidelines districts must follow for the 2019-20 school year. This will be a new way of calculating grades for all of us and we appreciate your patience as we work through it. If you have questions after reading this, please start with the classroom teacher. If they are unable to answer your question, please contact your School Counselor or an administrator.
In summary:
Term 4 Grades
All Term 4 grades will be recorded as "NM" for No Mark.
Term 4 grades only appear on Report Cards, not Official Transcripts (final grades only).
The actual letter grade from the gradebook may still be used when considering semester grades.
Keep completing packet work and communicating with teachers!
A grade of "NM" does not factor into Grade Point Average calculations (GPA).
Credit is not assigned by the quarter, it is attached to the semester grade.
Semester 2/End of Year Grades
All non-credit bearing courses (most middle school courses) will be recorded as "Pass", if the average grade from the previous quarter(s) is an A, B, C, or D. All non-credit bearing courses will be recorded as "No Mark", if the average grade from the previous quarter(s) is an F.
All students will receive a "Pass" for the WIN period.
All credit bearing courses (Intermediate Algebra, German, & Spanish) will receive the letter grade earned for all passing grades.
No Fs will be recorded on transcripts.
Failing grades will be recorded as NM or No Mark. As with an F grade, no credit is given for No Mark. The difference between the NM and the F is that the NM won't negatively impact the cumulative GPA.
Semester 2 Grade Possibilities: A, B, C, D, No Mark, Pass
Final grade starts with grade earned in 3rd quarter; work completed during distance learning can help improve that starting grade.
Students who did not earn credit during second semester (final semester grade of NM or "No Mark") will have the option to recover credit either in the summer or fall as normal.
Report Cards Will Be Mailed Home the Week of June 15
