Weekly Updates for Faculty & Staff - September 1
Reflection
As I reflect upon our second week of school, I wanted to remind you that you must remember that you, as a teacher, are incredibly important. Each day you get out of bed and answer a call of opportunity...opportunity to make the lives of our students better.
I have so enjoyed getting to know each of you better as we have worked side by side in the past month or so.
Remember to:
- laugh often.
- cry when you need to.
- have fun.
- be inspired.
- make a positive difference.
- enjoy the ride.
General Reminders
- Attendance should be taken in every class. Even though you see your students twice a day, you must take attendance at the time of each class period and not at the same time. It is very important for attendance to be done correctly.
- The emergency windows in the classroom should be free of clutter so that they can easily be accessed.
- Please remember that assessments should be submitted to me one week in advance of administering them to students.
- If you are holding a student back from Release Time, please be sure to notify Teressa Kelley. We want to be sure that we always know where the students are.
Thank you for ALL that you do. I appreciate each of you!
Planning Time
Thank you, Mr. Jeff!
Ummm...there's something on your head!
Something to Think About
Notes from Colin Rork
Thanks to everyone for selecting High Risers each week. Please remember to only select ONE each week. I know you all have a lot on your plate, but this small gesture for your students is making a big impact on their confidence and sense of importance.
Don’t forget to email the tardies. I keep data on everything you all send me. This is the type of data that covers us and assists us.
Lunch detentions - I have data on every single detention you enter. This has already been helpful with a few situations and will only continue to be helpful when dealing with parent questions/concerns as well as teacher questions/concerns. Thanks to 6th and 7th grades for being diligent with this because it enables me to better serve you.
Announcements - Please email me when you have announcements that need to be made.
Instructional Notes from Jen Ellison
Next Week we will distribute 8th grade chromebooks on Wednesday in Homeroom classes ( 4th period)
We will also institue our new Policy and Procedures for Signing out Chromebook/Laptop Carts at LMS. https://tinyurl.com/y8kmd2rj
All carts will be in the new locations on Tuesday morning.
Next Tuesday 9/5/17 we will have a Virtual PD for the Expanded ADEPT Rubric on Teacher Knowledge of Students and Grouping.
I will be working on your MAP rosters for MAP testing ( you will NOT have to create them)
I will be the new designee for Gradebook Setup, Troubleshooting, Verifications, and Historical Grades. I will be putting in your WP’s for all classes. Therefore I will need your username and password for logging into PowerSchool. Please click and fill out the following form. https://goo.gl/forms/txlqUlPjJGZA78152
If you would rather come and hand me your Username and Password on paper that is fine too.
Please feel free to email or set up a time with me to meet about your SLO
Thanks for all you do for LMS .
Essential Question Info from Wendy Blanchard-Creason
As we build and use essential questions this year, we create a culture of inquiry. This construction of essential questions (EQs) employs seven (7) key components, per McTighe and Wiggins:
EQs are open-ended without a single, final, correct answer.
EQs are thought-provoking, intellectually engaging, and spark debate.
EQs call for higher-order thinking – analysis, inference, evaluation, and prediction.
EQs point toward important, transferable ideas within and possibly across disciplines.
EQs raise additional questions and encourage further inquiry.
EQs require support and justification, not just an answer.
EQs need to be revisited over time.
