TEXTBOOK RENTAL
Textbook statements have been sent home and are now due.
Balances that are not paid in full will be turned over to collections, unless a payment arrangement is made. You are able to make payments online through your Skyward account, or by sending payment with your child in an envelope labeled "tuition" with your child's name.
Payments can be made with cash or check made payable to Cooks Corners Elementary.
TOYS FOR TOTS
We received a "Thank You" letter from the Marine Corps League, Dunes Leathernecks Detachment #1056 of Porter County for our generous gifts of kindness that were given to the 2018 Toys for Tots local campaign. In the letter, it stated that there were 152 collection boxes out covering 138 collection sites. There were 2,108 children that received toys and every child that was helped received 3.5 toys, plus a game or a book making their Christmas so much happier. There were 95 bicycles given away.
Thank you to the Cooks Corners Student Council for organizing this and to our students and families that made this such a huge success.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
When it is your child's birthday, be sure and ask them what they got to do in the office that morning because it was their birthday.

PTO NEWS
At our January meeting we had a great summary from the teachers that went to RCA about what they learned and are hoping to implement in their classrooms. We approved funds to send the remaining classroom teachers (2nd grade) to RCA! They will attend in February!
It's time to begin thinking about next year, too. PTO board positions will be open (Vice-President, Secretary), as well as some committee chairs (Read-a-Thon, Art Appreciation, Trivia Night). If you are interested in any of these, or would just like to get more information, please let me know! Don't be shy, we need YOU!
We hope to see you at our next PTO meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 6th at 6pm.
Any questions, please email Jessica at ptocookscorners@gmail.com!
YEARBOOK
The deadline is approaching! I could really use pictures from holiday parties, field trips, and other candids at lunch/recess/classrooms.
Please email them to: cookscornersyb@gmail.com by February 1!
TRIVIA NIGHT
Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
Students will test their trivia knowledge by competing in teams to answer as many different questions correctly as they can at the Cooks Corners Trivia Night, which will be held in the gym on Thursday, February 7, right after school.
Students in K-2 will compete right after school until 4:15 while students in grades 3-5 will compete until 5:00. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. Come watch the fun and see if you are smarter than a 5th grader!
Please contact Melissa Stoltzfus at mbestoltzfus@gmail.com or Johanna Smith at tylerjohanna@icloud.com if you have any questions.
RILEY SKATE NIGHT
The annual Cooks Corners Elementary School “Riley Skate Night” will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Benjamin Franklin Middle School.
All of the profits from this event will directly benefit Riley Hospital for Children.
Donations are crucial because as part of a private, non-profit hospital system, Riley relies on the generosity and support of the community to continue to provide hope in healing.
Donations of raffle prizes, gift baskets, and the items listed below are greatly appreciated and needed. Monetary donations, which would allow us to purchase concessions and additional raffle prizes, are also welcomed.
Things we will need donated:
Ben’s pretzels
Popcorn machine and supplies
Water
Gatorade
Ice cream and supplies
Raffle items
Red Balloons
Please contact Jori Krischke at jorikrischke@hotmail.com or by calling or texting 312-204-9437 or Kristin Mulligan at kmulligan0611@gmail.com for additional information or to make donation arrangements.

40-50 degrees: jackets, long pants
30-40 degrees: heavy winter jacket, long pants, hat & gloves
20-30 degrees: heavy winter jacket, long pants, hat & gloves, boots*
20 degrees & below: heavy winter jacket, long pants, hat & gloves, boots*
*Snow play: snow pants and boots are required if a student wants to walk and/or play in the snow. Without boots or snow pants, students will be allowed to go outside, but will only be allowed on the blacktop during recess.
Each grade goes outside for recess every day, unless the temperature or wind-chill is below zero. Please remember to make sure that your child remembers to dress according to these guidelines. Not having the proper attire will result in a loss of recess.
