CRAWFORD'S CORNER

Greetings Crockett Community!

Thank you all to a wonderful start to the 2018-2019 school year. We are already in full gear with projects starting, athletic seasons kicking off, auditions happening and collaborating in the classrooms. We have also met with our students over the last two weeks in Advisory about Crockett's new Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Collective Commitments. I would like to remind everyone about our first Core PRIDE Value - PEACE.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “If we want to reach real peace in this world, we should start educating children.” Crockett will continue to educate our students and promote peace in the classroom and our entire campus. We our asking our parents and guardians to continue to promote this message at home as well. Feel free to read this article that gives 20 ways to promote peace. Thank you, in advance, for engaging in this important discussion about PEACE with our students so Crockett can continue to remain Always Victorious!

Communities In Schools (CIS) is enrolling students for the school year 2018-2019!

CIS works in partnership with Crockett HS to provide services and opportunities to help students achieve their highest potential. Our supportive, comprehensive programming teaches students the skills they need to be safe and successful in school and in life. CIS staff work directly with students by offering a wide variety of free services during the school day. These include:

· Academic support, college preparation, and career exploration

· Small support groups or individual services with a social worker, counselor, or mentor

· Character building activities such as service learning projects

· A place for students to get to know other students in a positive, safe environment

· Resources (school supplies, school clothing, snacks, referrals to community resources)

· 9th grade transition support and guidance

If you would like for your child to participate in the CIS program at Crockett, please contact your student’s school counselor or call Tara Domasco, CIS Program Manager, at 512-414-7810.

Check out Crockett's Mariachi at the Hideout Theatre

Our Mariachi has been asked to be a part of the La Vida de los Muertos show at the Hideout Theatre. It'll be showing every Saturday through all of September and October, with a preview show next Thursday and possibly a Halloween evening show. Our part will consist of three featured performances with one of them possibly being a version of La Negra that's accompanied by the entire cast.

The preview show is FREE, but you have to reserve tickets. Right now there are only 13 seats left. If you can, please come out to support us at some point throughout the run!

More details to the show, including how to purchase/reserve tickets, are linked below. There's also a donation button that's dedicated exclusively to our program! It's supposed to be family friendly (but possibly PG-13 just because of the improvisation component.

Please share this link with as many people as you can on all of your social platforms. It would really help our program! I hope to see you there!
