Youth Literacy Fundraiser
TODAY is the last day to contribute to our Youth Literacy Fundraiser with First Book and dd's Discounts! Donations are being accepted at dd's Discounts at 1925 Dinuba Blvd. Thanks to all our families and community members who have already donated. Thank you for supporting our GLC students!
School Safety
Our schools hold three types of safety drills throughout the school year:
- Lockdown drill - Students move to the safety of a classroom or closest building when there is imminent danger either on campus or in the neighborhood, such as from a loose animal, community incident, or police action.
- Earthquake drill - Students practice safety measures to prevent harm during an earthquake. Students protect their heads, take cover under desks and tables, and move away from windows and glass.
- Fire drill - Students learn to evacuate classrooms safely in the event of a fire.
Families can assist our school in being prepared for an emergency by ensuring that their child's Emergency Contacts are up to date. Only people authorized as Emergency Contacts can pick up your child at school.
In the case of an emergency, school leadership will communicate with parents and families regarding serious threats or crisis response via Blackboard messaging and District social media. We all play a role in keeping our schools and community safe. Remember to stay vigilent and say something when you see signs of suspicious activity.
Digital Citizenship Week (Gr K-8)
Last week was Digital Citizenship Week at GLC. Put simply, digital citizenship is the responsible use of technology.
Families should have received letters describing what their students would be learning as part of these lessons. (If you did not receive your letter, please check your child's backpack.)
Here were the topics covered by grade level:
- Gr K-2: Healthy media habits and how to be safe online
- Gr 3-5: Focus on screen time and online safety
- Gr 6-8: Reflecting on tech use, making thoughtful choices, standing up to cyberbullying, and using social media carefully
Letters to home can also be viewed HERE on the GLC website. Stay tuned as we continue to provide important information about digital citizenship at school and at home!
Back-to-School Night
Attending Back-to-School Night is critical to building our school-home partnership. In addition to meeting their child's teacher(s), parents will understand what content students will be learning and how they can support their child's success in school. Perhaps most importantly, attending Back-to-School Night communicates to our students how much their families support their education! See you on September 1st!
