Phoenix News
Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
February 3, 2019
A Message from the Director
Parents and students,
The month of February brings a new Kickin' it with Collegiate event on Thursdays. This Thursday our students will be playing in a Kickin' it with Collegiate basketball game at the TCC NE gym. A late bus will be available to take students back to Mustang/Panther Stadium after the game. On Feb 21, we will have a kickin' it with Collegiate Volleyball game at the TCC NE gym and on Feb 28 we will end the month with a Kickin' it with Collegiate Soccer game at GMS athletic field! Mark these dates on your calendar and plan to come cheer our Phoenix students on!
We are excited to announce that we have over 100 students committed to the class of 2023 and will finalize that number this week! I look forward to these students joining our Phoenix Family!
Remember Collegiate Academy is in session on Monday, February 18. All students must attend school that day, except those on Optional Flexible School Day Program!
PhoenixON!
Ms Knutz
FROM THE DEAN'S DESK
We sent a letter notifying that Collegiate Academy seniors will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on March 6, 2019. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects
While the assessment is voluntary, NAEP depends on student participation to help policymakers improve education. However, if you do not want your child to participate, please notify me in writing by March 1, 2019.
We are attaching the letter. Contact Matthew White at 817-515-6775 or at matthew.white@gcisd.net if you have any questions.

FAFSA & Final Aid Information:
Students, BEFORE you can apply for Federal Student Aid, the student AND the parent MUST have a FSA ID. Please request that now as it can take a few weeks to get your FSA ID. From the FAFSA Website (https://fafsa.ed.gov): It is very important that you and your parent create and use your own FSA IDs. The FSA ID acts as a legal signature and should not be shared. Letting someone else create your FSA ID is not allowed and can create problems and delays with your financial aid. For more information or to create your own FSA ID, go to StudentAid.gov/fsaid. If your parent does not have a Social Security Number, he or she will not be able to get an FSA ID through the online process. In that case your parent will print, sign, and mail in a paper signature page.

Valentine’s Day Sonnet Performances
Students,
Have you ever wanted to show someone that you care in a suitably dramatic fashion? The Theatre club is offering Valentine Sonnet Performances! For $2 you can choose from a collection of Shakespearean sonnets and verses that a theatre student will read dramatically to a recipient of your choice on Valentine’s Day. For $4 they can read something you wrote (must be approved by Ms. Haney). This is a unique way to say “Happy Valentine’s Day” or even a good way to annoy someone with Shakespeare. Our sonnet performances will be for sale during lunch in room 1219 from February 4 through February 8 to be delivered on Valentine’s Day-February 14th. The proceeds will be used to help fund one of our future productions! Please see Mrs. Haney with any questions
