St. Columba Catholic School - News every Friday - 10/30/20
Whew! What a week!
Hard to believe we crammed Red Ribbon Week (and all of its great and fun activities), our Halloween Celebration, and the start of the 2nd quarter all in to one week!
As long of a week as it was, this week was such a testament to how amazing our school is. Behind the leadership of student council and our teachers, we had a great Red Ribbon Week! If you haven't seen the highlights, head over to our FACEBOOK PAGE! On top of all that fun, we concluded the week with a bang! I was so happy, that even in the midst of our pandemic, our students and teachers had that Halloween Spirit going strong! The costumes were absolutely fantastic! We also had a blast decorating our pumpkins! Congratulations to the winners in each class for the best decorated pumpkin!
Next week is a big week because we get to have some great home/school collaboration during our Parent Teacher Conferences. Please be sure to sign up so that you can get a slot that you want before they all fill up.
Finally, don't forget that Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday. We don't want to have anybody showing up late!
Here is a look ahead at the upcoming events on campus:
- Monday, November 2:
- Tuesday, November 3: K-8 Half Day; Parent Teacher Conferences
- Wednesday, November 4: Preschool Picture Day and K-8 Makeup Pictures; K-8 Half Day; Parent Teacher Conferences
- Thursday, November 5: Preschool Picture Day and K-8 Makeup Pictures; K-8 Half Day; Parent Teacher Conferences
- Friday, November 6: Last Day to Turn in Candy for Casa de Los Pobres; Preschool Half Day; K-8 Half Day; Parent Teacher Conferences

Wednesday and Thursday Picture Day!
For all Preschool Families, you should have received your Picture Order form. If you did not, please be sure to get one from Ms. Lori on Monday. All photo orders should be sent in on or before Picture Day.
Also, because we are taking Pictures on two days, your child does not need to come on a day different than his/her normal day. If your child is a 5 day a week student, he/she will take his/her photo on Wednesday, November 4th.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
For K-8 Families, your child can make up his/her photo on either day. If your child is in K-1 or 7-8, please have them take his/her photo on Thursday because he/she will already be in his/her Mass Uniform. If your child is in 2-6, either day is fine.
Please ensure your child is in Mass Uniform with the correct Sweater/Vest from the new uniform company. I know some plaid items are still backordered, but everything else should be here as long as you ordered within the last few weeks. If you just ordered last week, we will try to acquire some extra sweaters/vests.

Halloween Candy Collection
For another year, St. Columba is partnering with Casa de Los Pobres in Tijuana. The Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Queen of Peace coordinate an annual Christmas distribution where 1,700 impoverished families receive a chicken, rice, beans, canned vegetables and fruit, and a bag of candy to make Christmas festivities a little sweeter!
In order to have enough candy for the children in those families, we collect extra candy from Halloween and pass it on to Casa de Los Pobres for Christmas.
If you have any extra candy, please bring donations in Freezer Quart-Size, Ziploc bags.
We will collect extra candy through Friday, November 6th.
Veteran's Day Assembly and Request
Mrs. Bunker and the 5th grade class will be hosting a very special Veteran's Day (Virtual) Assembly on Wednesday, November 11th!
To make this assembly extra special, we are requesting that we connect with our Veterans and Active Duty or Reserve Service Members in two special ways.
First of all, we are requesting that any veteran, active duty, or reserve service member who wishes to share his/her story and why he/she joined the military and chose to defend our country send in a short video to Mrs. Bunker.
Additionally, Mrs. Bunker will be collecting photographs of veterans from our families and communities to create a slideshow as part of the assembly. Please feel free to send one in to Mrs. Bunker following the directions included in the attachment below.
For more details, see the attachment below or reach out to Mrs. Bunker at grade5@stcolumbaschool.org
