Dear Woodin Parents,
I hope that you and your family are healthy and safe. I also hope that you have found a rhythm that is working for all of you during our school closure.
Some of you might feel guilty about the amount of play your kids are doing, and you may feel that they are not doing enough learning. Don’t feel guilty! The distance learning provided by your child’s teacher is important and valuable, and I also want to reassure you that your child’s play is also learning! Board games, building toys, puzzles, home projects, cooking, creating music and art, and doing crafts all can help develop language, vocabulary, social skills, and mathematics skills! Also, while the pandemic and closures are causing disruption to our lives, it is encouraging to be reminded of how resilient children can be. This article shares that this whole experience can be an opportunity for growth for our children’s resilience. This whole experience can be an opportunity for growth for our children if we support them, but don't save them.
Wishing you and your family the best during these times!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Bowers
Report Cards
This past week, Northshore provided additional guidance around elementary grading for the semester. As previously communicated by Dr. Reid, students will receive a grade of “prepared” or “prepared with support.” Our District is in the process of creating communication to share additional details with families around all the report card changes due to our current changes in our school environment. In the meantime, it is important you know your child’s engagement will impact his or her grade. Students are considered engaged if they are:
Connecting with teachers in small groups or one on one.
Logging into and participating in pre-recorded or live discussions and activities via SeeSaw or Google Classroom.
Completing and sharing online classroom assignments.
While we encourage students to use additional online resources such as i-Ready, Razkids, etc, these resources are supplemental and are not counted toward engagement in classroom content, unless they are assigned by the teacher. In addition to engagement, students’ progress prior to moving to online learning can also be considered. Thank you for your support by ensuring your child participates in the online classroom content provided by our staff. We understand you may have additional questions about this grading process and changes to the report card. Thank you for your patience as more information is still to come.

Woodin's Virtual Field Day 2020
We are excited to announce that our school community will be participating in Woodin Field Day in the month of June!
Field Day is an important tradition at our school. It is a significant day for our students and our staff, and we feel that in these incredibly challenging times this school event is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community and support one another in a fun and meaningful way.
All Woodin events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items. You won’t be asked to purchase any specialized equipment or supplies.
Here’s how it will work:
There are 15 events. You may choose to participate in just a few or all fifteen. Do what works for your family!
Each Friday, June 5, 12, and 19, five different field day events will be published on the Woodin Field Day Website.
If you do not have certain items to complete the event, be creative and use other objects from around your house.
Feel free to modify activities to fit the space or materials that you have at home.
You may not be able to complete all activities in one day. Feel free to spread them out over the course of the week.
Your family may choose to keep score or just play for fun. If you are keeping score, each participating student, family and/or staff will need a scorecard (found on our website).
Every activity can be completed two times and the personal best score recorded.
Hold on to your scorecard to add your event scores each Friday.
After all 15 events are complete, fill out the online Field Day Event Form and send in a photo of your scorecard along with any photos you may have taken to Mr. Cooper and Mrs. Dixey.
As a school community, we are hoping to have at least 80% participation in at least 5 events over the three weeks. If we reach the 80% participation, Woodin PTA has a fun reward for our students! We are working together to earn something special for our school. More information to come as the details are finalized.
We will continue to send you updates on this fun and festive event. We appreciate your cooperation and are hopeful that your entire family will use it as a fun and meaningful way to be physically active together and with our entire school community.
Stay well,
Mr. Cooper and Mrs. Dixey
Welcome to our Wildcat Wonders Talent Show!
Do you have a talent, something that you are proud of, or something you learned to do while staying at home that you want to share with your fellow Wildcats? (Click here)
Maybe it’s a poem you wrote? A recipe that you love to make? Or a trick on your bike, scooter, or skateboard that you can do? It could be an awesome toy you want to share? A pet you love? An art project you created or an instrument you play. The possibilities are endless!
Anything that you are proud of and want to share can be sent in for our virtual “Wildcat Wonders” show! We want you to send a 30 second video clip of you or even a picture sharing what you love to do!
We will put all Woodin Wildcats videos and pictures into a movie to share with the entire school here at Woodin!
Please send in your videos to shead@nsd.org by Friday, June 5th.
The virtual Wildcat Wonders Show will be held on Friday, June 12th.
