Battle of the Books Competition
After three rounds of questions and many challenges, Mears has a champion team that is ready to go to the district battle. Please congratulate: Toril Peterson, Max Heilman, Anya Carpenter, and Anneliese Patterson. This is the second year in a row that these four students will represent Mears at district competition!
In honor of Youth Art Month, we have 10 students who will have their artwork on display around the community. Toril Peterson, Keziah Rey, Saoirse Clark, Amy Montano-Gil, Maggie Allen, Skylee Smith, and Reagan Adams will have their artwork featured at the Anchorage Museum. Tezlynn Quapaw and Estelina Paasi will have their artwork featured at the Loussac Library. And Dinah Jepson will have her artwork featured at the 5th Avenue Mall.

Parents! Have you been hearing about the Academies of Anchorage? Are you curious about how this will impact your student’s high school experience? We are hosting a Parent Information Night on February 13th starting at 6:00pm in the Mears Library Media Center. Come hear from Tony Lewis, Dimond H.S. Academy Coach, about this exciting transformation! The meeting will also be hosted virtually for those unable to join us in person.
We invite you to stay a little longer and participate in the Mears PTSA monthly meeting which hosted virtually and will be broadcast in the LMC after the Academies of Anchorage presentation by Mr. Lewis.

for our February 17th Rummage Sale!
Clean out your closets, your garage, your storage shed!
Let us help you tidy up. Any items you wish to donate can be brought into room 116 or room 124 before or after school.
We prefer to receive items contained in bags or boxes.
We are limiting the size of items to things that can be carried by your middle schoolers = small furniture items are fine, but please leave mattresses and couch sized items at home.
Please limit donations to items in working order and in good enough shape to still be usable.
The only books being accepted are childrens’ picture books.
If you are donating an item running on battery power, please check that the batteries haven’t burst before donating it.
Feel free to invite donations from family, friends, and neighbors - we really appreciate the help to present a fun and rewarding selection of items at the sale on Saturday February 17th!
The Mears Costa Rica Trip students are organizing and running this event to defray their travel costs, all proceeds will go towards that purpose. Unsold items will be donated locally.

Congratulations to all 74 students who were accepted into National Junior Honor Society this year! All inductees will be celebrated at a formal induction ceremony next week.

HOMEWORK HELP is continuing this semester, with additional teacher assistance every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Room 206, 2:45- 4:00 pm

In Athletic News . . .
Girls Basketball is off to a fast & furious start. The Varsity girls are 2-1 and will host Begich on Feb 6. The JV girls are 3-0 and will also host Begich Feb 6th.The Girls C team first game was snowed out. They then hosted Mirror Lake on Feb 1st. Coach Peterson said the girls were awesome! C team will travel to Begich on Feb 5. Great Job Panthers!
The Mears Wresting team have completed two matches so far and the wrestlers are doing great. Their next match is Feb 7th at Clark.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities
It is time to start considering summer plans, and UAA has started sharing their summer Engineering Summer Camp options. Here is a link to the UAA Engineering Summer Camp page (or click on pic 👉) where you can preview the camp options, sign up for email information, and prepare for the February camp application opening. This is a great summer option for STEM learning with peers over the summer, and it includes exposure to the UAA College of Engineering = Win-Win!
Team Echo teachers highly recommend staying active and having fun while learning over the summer.
