Lucille Brown MS Parent Newsletter
Week of March 26, 2023
A Message from Dr. Gaines
Greetings, Lucille Brown MS families. I hope you're enjoying this beautiful Sunday! As you already know, this is our last week of school before spring break, so there is definitely an air of relief! I was also reminded that there are only 50 more days left in the 2022-23 school year...wow have things gone by fast!
With that, I'm asking that we finish this school year strong, which means students should continue to attend school on time, every day, all day. Additionally, students must continue to maintain their focus on academics and good behavior. Parents, you can assist us by reiterating these messages at home.
If your child reports that they are having difficulty navigating a situation at school (e.g., peer relations, academics, etc.), please do not hesitate to inform us. Our counselors and other support staff are available to assist. Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy the rest of your day!

IB Learner Profile Trait: Open-Minded
The March IB learner profile trait is OPEN-MINDED. An OPEN-MINDED student knows that all people are different. They listen to the points of view of others and consider many possibilities before making a decision. They celebrate the differences that make all people unique. How can parents help to develop this Open-Minded trait at home?
- Encourage your child to try new things – new foods, new games, and new activities.
- Expose your child to different festivals, celebrations, and traditions and be sure to present them in a non-judgmental way.
- Encourage your child to really listen to others when they speak.
- Introduce literature about many different cultures into your home library. Be sure that it is
appropriate and reflects the culture in an appropriate way.
- Reflect on their experiences from UN Week. How were they Open-Minded during the week? What did they learn about other countries or cultures that they didn’t know before?
- When you observe your child being Open-Minded, reinforce this positive behavior and use the PYP student profile terminology.
