Walking School Bus Survey
Braemar is working with the District of North Vancouver, and Translink, with the hope of starting a walking school bus (WSB) for the Braemar community in the new school year.
A WSB is a group of students who walk together to school along a designated route, similar to a traditional yellow school bus. Typically the WSB has designated meeting points or "bus stops" along the route, where students gather to join the group. Trained adult Walk Leaders are responsible for supervising the students and ensuring their safety during the walk. They guide the students and help them cross roads safely.
The concept of a WSB has gained popularity as a means of promoting physical activity, reducing traffic congestion around schools, and fostering a sense of community among students. It provides an alternative to car or bus transportation and encourages walking, which has numerous health benefits.
Please follow the link to the survey so the planning group may gauge interest in the programme. The go to this link for an information sheet which includes a QR code to the survey.
Kilometre Club
Once again, we will have a spring session of Kilometre Club from Monday, June 5th to Friday, June 23rd. The purpose of the KM Club is to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle as well as providing an opportunity for children to set and meet realistic goals.
The KM Club will run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:15-8:35 am.
Please DO NOT drive into the staff parking lot to drop your child off for the KM Club. The KM Club will run in ALL weather; therefore, students must be dressed appropriately. Only kilometres completed at school will be recorded. We encourage you to join your child in this activity by setting a goal for yourself as well. Please make sure all participants stretch appropriately before and after their run/walks.
Parent volunteers are needed to help hand out sticks and strips. Please sign-up through the Konstella app.
Here are some details about the KM Club:
- Four laps around the perimeter of the field equal one kilometre
- Student will receive a special popsicle stick every time they complete a lap
- They will trade in 4 popsicle sticks for one kilometre strip
- It is the student’s responsibility to hold onto their sticks and strips until their teacher records them on their classroom chart
- Students from K to 7 are welcome to participate, in addition to others family members
- Members are encouraged to set realistic goals
- Ribbons will be awarded as children reach 15, 25, 35, and 50 kilometres
- Each teacher will keep a chart of the progress of all their students
If you have any questions regarding KM Club please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
We look forward to a great turn out!
