BOOKS AND BEYOND
By now you have received all the important paperwork to kick off the Books and Beyond “Blast off into Reading” program. This is a yearlong reading program (September 15th - April 30th) to help encourage and foster a love of reading. This program works in coordination of your child’s grade level and abilities in his/ her reading adventures.
Updates will be sent three times during the year with a tally on how many sheets have been submitted for your child. The information will be included in the child’s Friday folder.
Tracking Sheets are collected and reported MONTHLY. Don’t forget that you can find additional tracking sheets at: www.pennyroadpta.com. Look under the PTA info tab for Books and Beyond.
Monthly rewards for the class (per grade) who submitted the most sheets (gifts will be education based).
Individual Awards are awarded at the completion of the program in April.
· All students who submit one sheet or more will receive a certificate
· 10-19 complete sheets will also receive a ribbon
· 20-29 complete sheets will also receive a bronze medal
· 30-39 complete sheets will also receive a silver medal
· 40 and above complete sheets will also receive a gold medal
Helpful hint: sit down with your child and help him/her set a goal of how many sheets he/she would like to turn in for the program. Your support can help them achieve or surpass that goal! We understand that this program relies on parents and we appreciate your support of this fun reading opportunity.
Should you have additional questions about this program, please feel free to reach out by email to swathee.r@gmail.com

The Penny Road Variety Show needs YOUR help!
Last year we were able to bring back the Penny Road Variety Show. It was a wonderful event enjoyed by so many families in our school’s community! Penny Road has some very talented Pandas. This event is tentatively scheduled for November but in order to host this event again, we need a parent to serve as the Chairperson. Mrs. Koch, our amazing music teacher, handles all of the technical aspects of the show. The chairperson is responsible for everything that goes on behind the scenes. Some of these responsibilities include: spreading the word about the show, accepting applications, communicating with parents, generating a program, recruiting volunteers, etc. We have notes from last year’s show to help you get started. If you have some spare time and are able to help (or you have questions before you commit), please email Amy Toland at tolandfam@gmail.com.
Corporate Sponsorships
Each year the Penny Road PTA offers opportunities to promote businesses and services to our school community. The dollars raised by your corporate sponsorship commitment allows us to:
- Purchase new technology programs
- Upgrade existing technology and equipment
- Enhance learning environments
- Maintain and improve facilities
- Support essential programming and educational experiences
If you own a local business and are interested in learning more about our Corporate Sponsorships, please contact kerry.lipitz@gmail.com.

INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY
Wednesday, October 2nd 2019
Students everywhere will be walking to school today! There are plenty of great reasons to walk to school – less traffic, safer streets, cleaner air, and it’s a healthy and fun way to start the day! If you live close enough to school, consider walking from home, but for those who live a bit further, we will meet at two locations to walk a shorter distance as a group. Here are the details:
Location #1: Cambridge Pool Parking Lot (0.5 miles west of Penny Road Elementary, the first subdivision on your right). Meet us at the Cambridge Pool (you can even park at the school and walk there). We will be walking by Danbury and Kensington.
Location #2: Glenridge Pool Parking Lot (Corner of Autumngate Drive and Kildaire Farm Road); we will cross Kildaire Farm Road and enter Windsor Oaks neighborhood. We will exit there, onto Penny Road, opposite Magnolia Woods. Neighborhoods close by Glenridge include, Stanton Place, Wrenn Meadow, Grey Hawk, Windsor Oaks.
We will meet at these locations at 8:20am and the group walk will commence at 8:30am! Anyone is welcome. For safety reasons all students MUST be accompanied by an adult.
SHOW YOUR SCHOOL SPIRIT: Make a poster to hold as we walk! Include creative designs and what you think is great about walking to school.
