NEW INFORMATION
Six down, three to go! It's amazing how time is flying and we have three more instructional weeks until Fall Break.
Mini observations are done! We are beginning to schedule meetings with you between September 17-September 28 to review observations and finalize your goals in SFS. Reminder of the goals needed in SFS:
- Standardized Measure (data trackers)
- Personal Goal
- School Goal
The school goal is as follows:
90% of staff will be effective or highly effective on Domain 3b of the Charlotte Danielson Rubric
(3b Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques: Use of questioning and discussion to deepen student understanding, and invite students to formulate hypotheses, make connections, or challenge previously held views) by the end of the 2018-19 SY observation cycle.
The rubric will be as follows:
Highly Effective- 90%+ of staff are effective or higher
Effective- 80-89% of staff are effective or higher
Improvement Necessary- 70-79% of staff are effective or higher
Ineffective- 69% or lower
On Tuesday, our students will be engaged in an anti-bullying assembly called Act Out. This is sponsored by Peace Learning Center. The times for the assemblies are as follows:
- Grades 3-6 (9:30-10:00)
- Grades K-2 (10:15-10:45)
The assemblies will be in the gym. We will call you down shortly before the assembly.
The PBIS Team meeting on Wednesday morning will start promptly at 7:45 am in the Media Center. The agenda will be sent out to the team by Wednesday.
PIT Day information will be sent home on Monday with students. Our work hours will be 12-8 pm. We will provide you lunch for the day! Anyone with knowledge of how the scheduling process runs is more than welcome to volunteer to help out! Please let me know ASAP if you want to help out.
Welcome Mr. Joe Dancy and Ms. Nicole Jones to the Lion Family. We are excited to have you on board and look forward to working with you this year!!!
REPEAT INFORMATION
Lesson Plan link for the week is below. Click on it and drop in lesson plans. Reminder- you can use the lesson plan template that works for you. Components required include:
- Standard- Identifier is fine, don't need to write it out
- Skill being taught- explicit through the I CAN statement
- Gradual Release- how are you modeling, practicing, and releasing for collaborative/independent practice
- Checks for Understanding- how are you checking every step of the way to ensure students are "getting it"?
The Staff Handbook is still attached below. You are expected to know the information in the handbook. Please make sure you review it carefully. I cannot stress the importance of this, particularly the CPS Reporting Protocols. When in doubt, REPORT!!!
You should have received an email from SafeSchools outlining the training you need to complete this school year. Due date for all trainings is Oct. 1.
Heavy Lifting!
Continued updates on our BIG ROCKS below:
- PBIS- PRIDE Store opens this week! It will be open during lunch periods. The schedule is attached. Continue pushing ROAR expectations throughout the building (we are doing great with this) and handing out PRIDE Cards. The PBIS Team will be meeting to flesh out final details for the PRIDE Party, to be held the Friday before Fall Break.
- MTSS- Our work around Tier 1 instruction continues this week in PLC's. Our goal is to embed our PD focus with planning during this time so that we can put our knowledge to use and make the time more productive. Similar to our desire for more student discussion during instruction, we would like to have more teacher voice during PLC's. We recognize we have not allowed for this and we need to change that. To that end, please bring the following to your PLC this week:
ELA- complex text, pacing guide (week of 9/24), tasks for your lessons
Math- Everyday math skill, tasks (week of 9/24)
- Growth Mindset- Please make sure you are caught up on your reading through Ch. 2. Think about how you are setting the stage in your classroom to encourage a growth mindset. Check out the video link below, as it shows what can happen when you establish this culture in your classroom. And...it's also a GREAT example of the type of instruction that should be happening in classrooms!
