News from your Instructional Technology Specialist
Welcome!
Welcome to the first issue of the ITS newsletter! I'll be using this newsletter to communicate with you monthly. Included will be new tools to try, announcements, PLP opportunities, kudos, and much more. Have a great idea to share? Let me know!
Digital Process Logs
Did you know students need to be reflecting on the work they do? Meghan Raftery and I will be presenting at Creeds on October 1st about digital process logs. There are two great tools that we will be sharing. Seesaw is an iPad app that allows students to submit work to an online portfolio. OneNote is a digital notebook that the students can access using the computer. If you are not assigned to attend this session and would like more information, please see me! There are great possibilities with both tools!
Amazing Ideas
Shoutout to Laura Beni and Tracy Coffin, both 3rd grade teachers, for implementing Edmodo in their classrooms. The kids love it, and I can't wait to hear more of their success stories! Interested? Let me know!
Book Study
We have a PLP opportunity coming up in October! I will be offering a book study on "Teaching the iGeneration" by Bill Ferriter. The book focuses on using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom. We will have a face-to-face meeting and the remainder of the study will be online discussion lasting five weeks. Teaching and Learning has supplied the books, but space is limited. North Landing's kickoff meeting is on October 6th, and Creeds is on October 8th. Sign up in My Learning Plan if you are interested!
October is Connected Educator Month!
Want to connect with other educators around the world? Need new ideas? Looking for resources? Twitter is the answer to all these questions! Many teachers at both schools are already signed up and sharing great things. If you would like to start a Twitter account and start connecting, just set up your free account at www.twitter.com. See me with questions!
