Think Different #81
Resources for the Week of Jan 14, 2019
How to access & download the thousands of new books entered the public domain on January 1st.
Richard Bryne shares two ways to find and download books that are in the public domain. Special thanks to Richard for sharing this amazing resource.
"The Internet Archive is a huge collection of public domain books and other media. Richard warns: "Before sending students to the Internet Archive to look for free books you should be aware that it does contain some works that you definitely wouldn't want elementary school students to read"
In that case, teachers should find what they want, download it and put it someplace for students to access,(i.e. google drive dropbox, , your LMS, etc.) Richard has made a video to show you exactly how to download books from The Internet Archive. Check it out below.
The WHY USE.... series
Simon Pile Says:
As part of the Why use? each book explores ten simple ways to use technology in the classroom with students and develop the way they think and the way they learn. The ten ideas come from a range of techniques and lessons that are tried and tested in the classroom. You can decide which you’d like to explore for yourself. So who is Simon Pile? How to Disable Chrome Automatic Sign-In to Google Services
The latest versions of Google Chrome have a feature called Chrome sign-in that causes the Chrome web browser to login to itself when you login to another Google web service like Gmail or YouTube.
In practice, this means you’ll have your Google profile picture tucked into the upper right corner of every Chrome window which is linked to your Google account.
Some Chrome users find Chrome sign-in to be great, while others may not like it. If you fall into the latter camp and don’t like automatic Chrome Google sign-in, then, fortunately the latest versions of Chrome make it easier to disable the Chrome automatic sign-in feature.
