DID YOU KNOW?
- Did you know that at 9.5 square miles, SHISD is the 2nd smallest geographic ISD in the state?
- Did you know that according to TEA, SHISD had 146 students transfer out of the district last year? That is a loss of over $1.5 million dollars in revenue to the district. :(
- Did you know that even though our tax rate of $1.67 is higher than Longview ISD, the SH taxpayers burden is lower due to the 15% optional homestead exemption that Longview does not offer?
- Did you know that if you pay your homestead taxes in Oct, you save an additional 3%? In November it's an additional 2% and 1% in December?
Let's find a way to keep them here and encourage more people to move to the Premier District in East Texas!
Concerns:
- Please remember to keep Dotty, Gail Powell's granddaughter, in your thoughts and prayers as she battles leukemia. She received a positive report on the latest bone marrow biopsy and has caught some kind of infection they are trying to pinpoint and treat. She was readmitted to the hospital in the early hours of the morning due to the infection. The family appreciates all who are covering Dotty and her family in prayer.
- David Fleming's brother-in-law unexpectedly passed away last week. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers
- Coach Montgomery had back surgery this week and is recovering well.
Kudos:
- Thank you to the board for the increased contribution toward health insurance ~ Guy Fuller

SH Students display good character
Yesterday I rode to Tatum to pick up our 9th grade and JV Football teams after they played. We stopped in Tatum at the Sonic to get food for the guys and at that time they were told by Coach Ender to make sure there was no trash left on the bus. When we got back to the school the boys unloaded the bus, several of the guys I noticed carried their trash off the bus. But the reason I am writing this is to let you know how impressed I was with several of the young men:
- Grant Fisher
- Jordan Jones
- Gavin Amerson
- Jonathan Adame
- Josh Decker
- Bryan Vaca
- Christian Jeter -(I'm not sure that is the correct last name< I couldn't read what he wrote down)
These guys stayed after everyone else got off the bus and cleaned. And even though it was expected of them, they really went above and beyond with it. They at times were crawling on the floor to make sure every thing was cleaned up and not a single one of them complained, they were very polite and willing to help, they also took the full trash bag and threw it away!! I was so impressed with these young men and wanted you to know what an amazing example they are!! Thank you so much for the work you do with them.
Thanks again,
Terry Warr
