Holiday Sing-Along

Students will participate in the Holiday Sing-Along during their specials times, as a grade level throughout the day. This was a model we started last year that was very successful to allow students a more meaningful experience in singing, dancing and playing instruments.

We will do a brief school assembly on the afternoon of December 16 to announce the winner to the Teacher Holiday Sweater Contest!

During the week before break, it is Culbert tradition to hold a Spirit Week. Below is the list of Spirit Days for each assigned day if your child chooses to participate.

Monday, December 12 Glitter, Sparkle, Holiday Bling

Tuesday, December 13 Accessorize with Gift Wrap, Bows, and Holiday Pride

Wednesday, December 14 Red and Green Day

Thursday, December 15 Holiday Hat Day

Friday, December 16 Holiday Sweater Day

Take Your Legislator to School

On November 22, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton visited Kenneth Culbert Elementary as part of Take Your Legislator to School Month. Students were able to show her projects they were working on, as well as how our amazing teachers engage students. Dr. Zeigler, LCPS Superintendent, and Ian Serotkin, School Board Member, joined Congresswoman Wexton on her visit.

Counselor's Corner

In December, many classes will continue to learn about Bullying Prevention- specifically refusal behaviors that may be utilized to support self and others (being an upstander) and will also begin to explore gratitude. Students in grades 3 and 5 will be taught about the brain and its role in self-regulation. In November, we continued to review comparing and contrasting bullying behavior and a one-time conflict. We learned about how to report and who trusted adults are in the school and at home that students would report to. We also began to discuss behaviors supportive of the refusal of bullying. Links for supplemental activities that are optional at home to support the classroom learning are below.
