Wee Wuns Newsletter
FEBRUARY 2024
Director's Message
What a crazy few weeks of weather we have had from freezing temperatures to lots of falling rain! I can’t believe that February is already upon us, and spring is just around the corner. We have kicked off our reservation process for next school year and we are anxiously waiting for Cy-Fair to put out their calendar so we can start planning ours. We are looking forward to the rest of the school year and the coming one as well. We are so honored to have you all as a part of our Wee Wuns family. This year seems to be passing faster than the last. The classrooms are busy with polar bears, winter animals, bear caves, space shuttles or even launch pads! We love to see and hear the kids engaged in play and pretend! In February, we generally think of Valentine’s Day, but this year the Lenten season also begins in February. We hope this month and season bring much joy to your families.

VALENTINE PARTIES
Valentine parties will be held on Tuesday, February 13th and Wednesday, February 14th. Students are asked to bring Valentines to exchange with friends in their class. They do not need to be addressed to a particular student, as each student will be allowed to deliver their own Valentines. Preschool parties will begin at 1:15 p.m.
Toddler parties are for students only and party times will vary by class. An opportunity to sign up for Toddler party items will be available at each classroom door. More information will be provided by your child's teacher.
Parent Tips for Speech and Language Development
Who is an SLP?
A speech language pathologist.
What does an SLP do?
They help children to become the best communicator, friend, and eater they can be!
When should I call an SLP for help?
Some signs for a toddler age child: By two years of age, children should be using 50 to 250 words and combining at least 2 words into phrases, you should understand 50-75% of what they tell you, if you see signs of your child becoming frustrated when trying to express themselves.
Some signs for a pre-school age child : If it is hard for you or others to understand most of what they are saying, if they have trouble following directions without you helping by pointing, have difficulty answering questions or recalling information, or have difficulty with early grammar like using pronouns.

Get With (Preschool)
February is such a fun month in our home- we have a tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day with ice cream sundaes FOR dinner with a huge topping bar. My husband and I also celebrate our birthdays. But none of that compares to the love Jesus has for us! We will talk this month about God’s great love for all people and we will start the Easter story.
We will learn Bible stories about Jesus loving the man with Leprosy and Zacchaeus before learning about the 12 disciples and Jesus washing the feet of his friends.
We will sing: “Love One Another” by Little Praise Party, "Zacchaeus Was a Wee Little Man", "How Great is Our God" by Little Praise Party, "Hosanna Rock" by Little Praise Party, and "One, Two, Three" by Little Praise Party.
Our memory verse this month is, “Be kind and loving to each other.” Ephesians 4:32
Some things to do at home :
Morning Time:
When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say: “Good morning, [child’s name]! Do you know why I’m smiling? I’m smiling because I know we can talk to Jesus and ask Him for help anytime we need it, just like the man with leprosy did.
Cuddle Time:
Cuddle with your child and pray: “God, thank You for sending Jesus to love people who are sick and have boo-boos, just like Jesus loved the man with leprosy in the Bible

Spanish
¡Feliz mes del amor! This month we will introduce “rosa” or “rosado” color, body parts , some more opposites and vocabulary related to the day and the night. We will celebrate our Valentines theme by learning new expressions for showing loving among each other and we will practice them by playing the actions game of “Amanda Manda” ( “Amanda manda dar un abrazo” , “Amanda manda lanzar un beso” ). New vocabulary and expressions come always along with pictures, gestures, sign language, and new body moves that provide our friends with meaningful contexts for facilitating the acquisition of the Spanish language using the target language and avoiding translations.
Language practice:
“Te quiero” . “Dar/ darse un abrazo”. “Lanzar un beso”.
“Toca tu nariz/ oreja/ boca/ ojos/ cabeza y pie.”.
“Brazos ondeando, palmas tocando, ojos guiñando, pies pisando”.
“Buenas noches” “A dormir”
Vocabulary
Las partes del cuerpo ( parts of the body): la cabeza, el corazón , los ojos, la oreja, el brazo, la boca , la nariz y el pie.
El día y la noche (day and night) : el sol, la nube, la luna y la estrella.
Color rosa o rosado.
Opuestos: Largo/corto. Frío/caliente.
Songs
“Te quiero mamá”.
“Mi cuerpo hace música”.
"Brazos ondeando”.
“ Estrellita, ¿dónde estás?"
” Buenas noches, a dormir”

A message from Associate Pastor, Jon Thornsbury
Dear Friends,
I just wanted to take this time to introduce myself as I am sure we might have met at one of the many family events through Wee Wuns over the past several months at Cypress Methodist Church. Holly and I moved to Cypress the first part of November and have slowly been getting settled into this wonderful city. I will be serving as one of the associate pastors here at Cypress Methodist and also working with Amy Camp - your incredible director at Wee Wuns. I have had the privilege to meet many of the children as I have been in Chapel and also welcoming them at the beginning of the day as the come to the facility.
Holly and I have two adult children and have served Methodist Churches in East Texas, Houston and Waco. We are so excited to be a part of the team at the Church and a part of this wonderful community. I understand the long and great history of Wee Wuns and how there are many who were children in the program before now sending their own children to be a part of this incredible ministry.
Please know that if there would ever be a need for pastoral care or if you would like to speak to a pastor my door is always opened. If you do not currently have a church home, I would like to invite you to come and see this incredible faith community called Cypress Methodist Church. Sunday morning services are at 9:30 in the Ministry Activity Center and 11:00 am in the Sanctuary. The 9:30 service is more modern in style with a band and more contemporary music. The 11:00 service is more traditional in style with a choir and hymns. If you have any questions regarding these services, please feel free to ask Amy or myself and we would be happy to assist you.
Again, thank you for the privilege of working with your children and trusting us to guide them in these formative years – it is a true blessing and honor.
