Sentence types
Sentences can be broken down into four basic sentence types. The four types are imperative, interrogative, declarative, and exclamative. These four types clarify what the sentence is conveying to the reader.
The Four Types
DECLARATIVE
- Something to declare
- a statement to make
- Always ends in a period " . "
IMPERATIVE
- Makes a command/demand
- Can lend advice
- Is an order
INTERROGATIVE
- Makes an interrogation
- Helps to, or asks, a question
- Ends in a question mark
EXCLAMATORY
- EXCLAIMS!!!
- Expresses strong feelings!
- Has an exclamation mark at the end!
