Gateway Gazette
Fall 2017, Volume 5, Issue 1
Hello Parents!
This school year is already off to a fun start! Please follow our Instagram page (gateway_elementary_school) for more information and great pictures of our exciting events this year. So far this year, we have posted pictures of our third grade “Break Out Box” experience, various assemblies, and our Character Pumpkin Parade, just to name a few.
We have a number of great school events coming up that we would love to have all of our parents involved in. We will be kicking off our “Book Pro Game Show” and FALL Book Fair fundraisers in the coming weeks, and will also host our annual “Grandparents and Special Friends” luncheon during the week of November 6th. We hope that every Gator family can participate, and look forward to one more great reason to READ!
I want to thank everyone for your help in making our arrival and dismissal process so much safer and faster this year. We have greatly increased the number of car riders at Gateway, however the line, moves much faster and more efficiently. We appreciate all of the help from our TRPD in getting the routine established early on. As a reminder, in the afternoon, please continue to form two lines as you enter our main drive. This has helped speed things along tremendously. Chief Crowe would also like for us to continue to form the car lines on Walnut Lane (by BILO) to prevent our line from reaching the highway.
Please do not hesitate to call or stop by if I can help you all in any way. We are overwhelmed by the amount of parent support this year, and eager to help you all with any questions or concerns that you may have as well.
All the best,
Susan Stubley
Principal

Mrs. Rainey’s First Grade Class ended our Social Studies Unit of "Careers Within Our Community" with our very own Career Day. While completing this project each student researched a career and presented it to the class. The students had a wonderful time dressing up and sharing what they learned about the career they may like to be when they grow up.

October ESOL Activity: Mentoring Stations with Traveler’s Rest High School Students and Gateway Elementary School Students
Mr. Jason Rainey, and a dozen or so students from his ESOL class, came to do mentoring stations with some of the students from Mrs. Imes’ ESOL classes at Gateway. The activities included BINGO with shapes and colors, BINGO with numbers, Uno with colors and numbers, and a game of Go Fish – which was used to teach and/or reinforce vocabulary. A good time was had by all!
