The Design Process
Right now in STEM, we are focusing on the design process and the scientific method. Not only are we in the midst of our marble run project, but we also had to "Save Fred" today and we incorporated the design process into our problem solving techniques. We have talked a lot about how it's important to plan things out before "jumping" right in and trying to create or problem solve. I'm stressing the importance of asking questions, imagining and thinking about the possibilities, and planning out the process. Then we can move into the "create" stage and work to improve our creations. We have even discussed how we use a type of design process when we write. Marble Runs are due Oct. 2nd.

Discovery Quest
Hopefully your child has shown you their Discovery Quest folder on Google Drive and has had a conversation with you about what he/she needs to do for a successful Discovery Quest. They should be thinking about which topic they want to present on so that they can get started on their presentation soon. Presentations need to be between 2-5 minutes in length and cover the topic that was chosen. All of the information, including presentation dates are on their Google Drive on their iPad.
Curriculum Night
If you were unable to attend curriculum night, the powerpoint can be found on my website. See the link below. You will find it in the "Newsletters/Forms" section. It says PIN presentation. Please complete the Parent Reading Survey that I handed out at curriculum night and turn it in at your earliest convenience. If you haven't paid yet for our STORYWORKS magazine or for the classroom celebrations fund, you can send in your $12 this week in an envelope.
