Pennies for Patients Fundraising Campaign
Hello Thorpe Creek Families!
Student Council will be collecting donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society from April 18-25th through our Pennies for Patients fundraiser! If you would like to learn more about where our donations are going, check out this video: https://youtu.be/8PluE1SoNmw
All students will bring home a small box to collect their donations in and bring back to school any time between now and April 25th. There is also an option to donate online at this website: http://events.lls.org/pages/in/ThorpeCreekElementarySchool-2019
To celebrate the start of our campaign, we will have a hat day on Friday, April 19th!! All students may wear hats to school that day and are encouraged to donate $1.
We are looking forward to seeing what a difference our “Thorpe Creek Squad” can make in the lives of so many superheroes!
Sincerely,
TCE Student Council

Reusable containers
Hi TCE Cardinals!
Did you know that bringing reusable containers for your daily snack and in your lunchbox is better than using plastic baggies? We have learned that plastic
baggies take 500-1,000 years to decompose. We are recycling the plastic baggies, but bringing a reusable container is better for the Earth! Try to use more
reusable containers than plastic baggies.
Thank you for helping us change the world by reducing one plastic baggie at a time!

Daily Snacks
Please consider sending a snack to school with your child each day. Our approved list (to keep all of our Cardinals safe - especially those living with food allergies) include:
fruit
veggies

Pepperidge Farm Goldfish
Skinny Popcorn
We appreciate donations for our students that are without a snack, as well. Thank you for considering!

We are Learning
Reading
This week, we learned about fables. We learned that fables are short stories that often have animals acting as humans. Fables teach us a moral or a lesson. We read several fables and identified the moral of the story. Next week, we will start our unit of study on poetry.
Writing
Math
This week, we learned that basic multiplication facts can help us solve bigger multiplication problems. If we know 9 x 4 = 36, then we know 90 X 4= 360. We used this same knowledge and applied it to basic division facts as well. If we know 72/9 is 8 then we know 720/9 is 80. Please continue to work on multiplication math facts with your child at home. We also learned about lines, line segments, and rays.
Science
This week, we discussed clouds. We discussed the different types of clouds we could see in the sky. We learned that there are four main types of clouds: Cirrus, Stratus, Cumulus, and Cumulonimbus. Cirrus clouds are wispy and means the weather is calm. Stratus clouds are low clouds that can produce rain or snow. Fog is a stratus cloud. Cumulus are fluffy clouds that look like cotton candy in the sky. When they are apart, they mean the weather is fair. When they are together, rain or snow showers can be produced. Cumulonimbus clouds are big and dark. They can produce storms that have thunder and lightening. They can even produce a large amount of rain that could cause flooding.
