District Provides Update on Staffing Plan
At its meeting on March 19, the Glenview District 34 Board of Education approved the staffing allocation report for next school year. Since first presented to the Board in February, some minor changes were made to the report. However, the district continues to anticipate an overall reduction in certified and support staff FTE positions. It should be noted these numbers are still subject to change based on student need.
Executive Director of Human Resources Dr. Heather Hopkins noted that due to a projected decrease in student population, as well as a combination of a decrease and reorganization of student services, the report reflects an overall decline of 4.3FTE. This resulted in a 2.6 FTE Reduction in Force.
District Adopts New Social Media Policy
"Overall, the policy is meant to encourage staff to utilize platforms such as Facebook and Twitter as a professional resource in District 34, but to do so with the proper guidance and support in place," explained Director of Communications & Public Relations Jenn Nimke.
As part of this change, employees interested in setting up a professional social media account will now undergo a brief training in order to understand how to best leverage Facebook or Twitter while avoiding potential pitfalls. They also will be given guidance on how to navigate some of the more challenging issues they may experience such as responding to comments, proper security when setting up a profile, and navigating "friend" or "follower" requests.
Later this week, all staff members will receive an e-mail from the Communications Department to build internal understanding about what this means for social media use moving forward in the district. Snow Day Make-Up Plan: No Change for Students
In response to inclement weather, we collectively made the decision with other Northfield Township school districts to cancel school on February 9, 2018. I know staff and parents are anxious to learn our plan to make-up the day, which is why I wanted to share this information with our Board of Education this evening.
I'm recommending that June 5 remain the last day of school for students. This day will be an early dismissal day for students in grades 1-7. Because this will be an early dismissal day, there will be an abbreviated schedule, which is as follows:
7:55-11 (Intermediate Schedule)
8:25-11:30 ( Middle School Schedule)
8:55-12 (Primary Schedule)
The last day for eighth grade students remains the same – May 30. Additionally, the last day of school for kindergarten students remains as June 4. Transportation will be provided to all students who typically ride the bus.
The last day for staff will be June 6. This means that while the last day for students is June 5, all staff will report to work on June 6 in order to make-up the day. Specific plans for that particular day will be determined and communicated closer to the date.
