Chorale Visits Oakland University
Our MCHS Chorale visited Oakland University on Tuesday, November 13. They spent some time on campus and had dinner together in the Oakland Center. After dinner they walked back to the music building and performed as part of the Chamber Choir Festival in Varner Hall. The evening ended with performances from the Oakland Chorale and MC students were very excited! Great experience for all of us!
MCHS Sports Update 2018
Marine City High School fall sports have come to a close, and all of our teams have many accomplishments to share. The Marine City High School tennis team had a banner year in 2018-19. The team finished tied for first and finished as co-champions of the MAC Blue. Aubrey Comment, Bradley Monarch, and the doubles teams of Dylan Parker/Randy Kammer and Connor Heaslip/Timmy DeSnyder earned all-conference honors. The team finished 3rd at Regionals and ended the season with an 8-0-3 record.
The Marine City Girls Golf Team worked hard and improved all season. Even though the season record doesn’t show it (0-4), the girls improved each match, highlighted by Senior Emmy Schoening earning All Conference MAC Gold. Molly Thomas, Marissa May and Alexi Zuziak all competed hard for the Mariners who last season did not field a full squad. Congratulations to all four Lady Mariners.
The 2018 Marine City Mariners Football Team finished the year 10-3 and brought home district and regional championships for the first time since 2013. The Mariners defeated Clawson in round one of the playoffs, and then defeated Harper Woods at home for the district championship. In the regional championship the Mariners survived a double overtime and were victorious over Detroit Denby. The season came to an end with a hard fought loss in the Division 5 semifinals played in Howell to the undefeated Portland Raiders.
The Boy’s Varsity Cross Country Team had a wonderful season. They finished 2nd out of 15 teams in the MAC Blue. Conner Uppleger finished All-Conference and All-Region. Dylan Parker earned All-Conference honors.
The girls' cross country team competed at the MHSAA State Finals meet at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, November 3rd. The team advanced to the finals by placing 3rd in their regional the weekend before. Senior Samantha Bieth was the fastest Mariner placing 70th in the state. Samantha also earned All State Academic recognition for her hard work on the course and in the classroom. Along with Sam, the varsity members were Kaylie Vandenbossche, Alyssa Pollauf, Gina Collins. Makenna Morse, Mackenzie LaBuhn and Bella Volkman. All the girls ran well and gained valuable experience so they can do even better next year!!
The Marine City Mariners varsity volleyball team recently finished their 2018 season. They placed 5th in the league with a 3-7 record. The season started off slow having one returning player, but that didn’t stop this young team from working hard to improve and coming together as one. No matter how a match was going they always played through and displayed great sportsmanship. This year Elizabeth Coverdill received All-Conference and her teammates Lydia Fowler and Morgan McConnell received All-Conference Honorable Mention. Next year the Mariners will have 10 returning players. The team will miss seniors Lydia Fowler, Erin Davis and Madison Beard, we wish them nothing but the best!
The Marine City Varsity Cheer Team had a successful sideline season and is heading into their competitive season. We look forward to continuing the success of last year and keeping the momentum moving forward this season. Our first competition is approaching quickly, December 12th here at Marine City High School. We look forward to seeing them perform and continue to make their hometown proud. Go Mariners!!
The Lady Mariners swim team had a great season in 2018. Their record was 5-3 and they were 3rd in the MAC Blue Division. The Lady Mariners had 22 swimmers qualify for finals with 15 top 16 finishes at the MAC Blue Division Meet. They received the MAC Sportsmanship Award and had one state qualifier, Addee Spencer, who qualified for the state meet in diving. She placed 5th at Regionals and 16th at States. We are proud of all the accomplishments throughout the season!
What is RaiseMe?
RaiseMe is a platform that helps 9-12th grade students prepare for college by earning scholarships for their achievements in high school. Over 250 colleges and universities have partnered with RaiseMe, and award micro-scholarships for both academics and extracurricular activities.
How does it work?
Students create a portfolio and select colleges they’re interested in attending. As they add achievements to their portfolio - grades, club or sports participation, even college visits - they can see the micro-scholarships add up.
Partner colleges assign a potential dollar amount to certain achievements, which shows students how much they’d be guaranteed in scholarships if they are accepted to that school. For example, one college may offer $100 for an A, and another may offer $500.
As long as students meet the college’s eligibility requirements and any deadlines, and are accepted to the university, they can count on at least that much in scholarship awards on a per year basis.
