Specials for the Week of October 27th-31st
Ashley Moore was our Star of the Week. We loved seeing all of her pictures and loved her favorite book Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
We have a new student, Bryson Wheeler. Bryson comes to us from Brookwood Elementary. We are so excited to have a new friend!
Congratulations to Bria Carter for winning 1st place in Photography in the Reflections contest!
We can't wait for our field trip to Corn Dawgs on October 31st! Look for more information next week. Please let us know if you plan on meeting us at the farm so we can plan accordingly.
- PTA wants to remind you that Fundraiser Pickup will be ONE day only, TODAY-Friday, October 24th from 7:30 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.
RED RIBBON WEEK
Craig Colts will celebrate Red Ribbon Week from October 27th-30th. Red ribbon Week is the largest, most visible drug prevention campaign observed in the United States. Use this week to talk to your child about making safe and healthy choices every day.
Here are activities you can participate in:
Monday, Oct. 27 = Red Day ( Wear anything RED! )...sign Pledge
Tuesday, Oct. 28 = Use Your Head, Don't Do Drugs ( Wear a hat or wig! )
Wednesday, Oct. 29 = We Will "Knot" Do Drugs ( Wear a tie or scarf! )
Thursday, Oct. 30 = Back Up Your Promise (Wear clothes backwards! )
Diabetes Awareness Walk
Next week we will be collecting money to raise awareness for Type 1 Diabetes! On Friday, 10/31 we will be walking our laps at recess in honor of our two students, Mya and Bailey J. Our goal is to raise $1,000! We know our Craig Colts can do it!! Please bring in your cash each morning next week. No coins please. For every $1 you bring in, you will get to put your name on a paper sneaker that will be hung on the walls in the lobby. Let’s aim to make a walkway all the way down the hall!! AND…….

LANGUAGE ARTS
- Building our sight word vocabulary- (Work on Words): Our new words this week: play, an, my, in, for
- Recognizing upper and lowercase letters, learning letter sounds, and recognizing color words
- Working on recognizing rhyming words
- Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- Features of non-fiction text
- Finding information in non-fiction text
- Creating pictures and phonetically spelling words to tell a story- focusing on setting & characters
- Working in guided reading groups- please have your child read the book to you and return it the next day
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers

- BUILDing Mathmeticians during our Math Workshop
Using math manipulatives to learn about shapes and numbers
Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens and ones to 100

- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES

- Learning about the life-cycle of the pumpkin.
- Learning about animals on the farm and the role they play

REMINDERS
- Fundraiser Pickup will be ONE day only- Friday, October 24th ALL DAY.
- Fall Family Social- "A Halloween Dance Party" is 6:30- 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 24th.
- Our Mega Minute Celebration will be on October 29th at 10:10 a.m. in the Media Center. Bronco awards will be given out at the ceremony.
- Let's help Buddy celebrate Reading by decorating a pumpkin with your favorite storybook character! This can be a family project. The guidelines were sent home this week. Pumpkin judging in the Media Center will occur on October 31st!
- Field Trip to Corn Dawgs is Friday, October 31st!
