November 2016 Happenings
5th Grade Energy Stations
Fifth grade rotated through eight stations to review their knowledge of energy and begin their research process.
We are so thankful to have a class set of iPads in our library for the students to use. They used the iPads to do a Nearpod lesson, create an energy collage in the PicCollage app, watch a video after scanning QR codes and scan a QR code to get to the online database Britannica.
In addition, they used trade books for information, created a flip book and tried out the Electronic Snap Circuits.
It was a very busy hour and a half of fun and learning!
Talking Leaf Creations
During their library time first and second grade read the book Leaf Man by Lois Elhert. Using the beautiful artwork from the book as inspiration they used silk leaves to make their own leaf creation. They took a photo of it using the iPads and then used the Chatterpix Kids app to make it "talk".
There were some fantastic creations!

Math In The Library
After reading a Thanksgiving story, the kinder students played a math game. They took turns to roll a die and then draw the appropriate part of a turkey. The goal was to be the first to complete their turkey.
Math and fun and rolled into one!
Schlitterbahn Waves of Reading
Our campus was treated to a visit by Schatze the mascot from Schlitterbahn Water Park. He was there to encourage our students to participate in the Waves of Reading challenge. The students can earn a ticket to Schlitterbahn by reading 10 hours at home. The form for this reading challenge will be sent home prior to the winter break.
In addition, the library was given their own floatie for students to sit in and read!
Cool!
Makerspace Club
In November, the students in the Makerspace Club got to try their hand at flying mini-drones. They loved it and were naturals at maneuvering them around the library.
Book Fair
Thank you to all who supported our Book Fair by making purchases and volunteering to help out. Without our wonderful volunteers our Book Fair would not be the success it was. Our next Book Fair will be in early February during the week of early release.
The profit from our Book Fair sales goes towards presentations, author visits, incentives and new furniture.
