Today's Tornado Warning
Dear Sycamore Families
As we wrap up what has been a very active weather day in our area, I thought this was a good time to communicate with you about the steps we take to ensure our students and staff are safe during weather events. We have weather alarms in our schools that go off to alert us when there is a weather watch or warning issued by the National Weather Service. All of our schools have School Safety Plans that address the steps we are to take in the event of situations like the one we encountered today. As a result of today’s warning, we moved our students and staff to protected areas within our building and asked students to move into the “Drop and Tuck” position. During this time, our school leaders continued to monitor the weather until the warning was lifted at which time we resumed our normal school day. Fortunately, today’s weather moved quickly through our area and the warning did not produce a tornado. It did, however, serve as an excellent opportunity for us to practice our severe weather protocols.
Using SchoolMessenger, the school system sent a message out about the precautionary steps schools were taking and then notified families when the warning was lifted. If you did not receive the message, please check with our front office so that we can verify that we have accurate contact information for you.
I know the safety of our students and staff is a priority we all share. On days like today when bad weather is predicted we all need to pay attention. At school we practice drills and talk about what to do in the case of bad weather. That said, it is important for parents to have conversations with their children about what they should do in case they are at home or at the bus stop when a storm hits. It looks like there could be additional weather warnings in our area so please stay aware of updated weather alerts and stay safe.
Many of our students revealed that they were afraid this morning. We worked hard to ensure their personal and emotional safety. We made sure all students had breakfast and some normalcy to their day. We also made sure that we retrieved as many students from the car rider lane during the warning as possible. Please be mindful that if the weather got worse, that you would have been be able to leave your cars and come in the building with your children. We appreciate your willingness to keep our staff and students safe a all times.
Thank you!

School Communication-Changes
We miss this feature, as it was a great way to communicate with parents and our community. However, we hope to keep you informed on our website, Principal's Desk, and social media pages.
We have received approval to utilize Class Dojo, so you will be getting correspondence from your child's teacher if they use this format for communication.

Friendly Reminders
- All visitors will be asked at the door who they are and their reason for entering the building by our front desk clerk. Always have your ID ready to show every time. Vanessa Camacho-Chapparo is our new front desk clerk and is happy to join our team. Please be patient with our new district requirement that ensures a stronger and safe environment for our school community.
- We will begin our morning announcements at 8:45 AM daily and ask that all car riders are in their seats ready to begin their day prior to 8:45 AM.
- We are going to use Mypaymentsplus for all of our monetary transactions besides small fundraisers throughout the year. Please make sure that you sign up for this with the information below.
- We are infusing social emotional learning with our PBIS discipline program. Every classroom will have morning meeting daily where they will greet one another, share something based on a focused topic, engage in an activity and end with a morning message. This 10 minute activity every day ties to our AKS, but also helps to start the day off positively. Ask your child about the amazing experience.
