Character Books

Our Hardworking/Motivation study ends on Friday, January 29. After you read the character book aloud on Friday, please send it to the office and we will put an "honesty" book in your mailbox on Friday afternoon.

Student Concerns

If there are any students in your class for whom you are considering retention or any ongoing TST, please see me before the end of January.

We need to be having serious conversations with parents as a team if there are academic or behavioral concerns at this time.

Student Led Conferences

Conference notes should go home on Friday, January 29.

Next week, Carey or Lyndsey will put the alternative Valentine Party letter in your mailbox. I have dated it February 5. You might consider having it in each students "things to do" folder at conferences. That way you can answer questions....some seem to think they have to sign it for students to stay in the classroom party. Otherwise, please send it home on Friday, February 5.

If you include information about the parent portal during student led conferences, remind parents that they will need to complete the parent portal form and show an ID to Carey to obtain a parent portal account. See Carey if you want the forms for your conferences.

It is important that during student led conferences that parents have an opportunity to visit with you regarding their child's progress. You might consider being a "station" that families visit or that you make a point to be able to visit with each parent about each child's progress this year.

Please remind parents and students to check the lost and found while they are here for conferences. We have collected many, many items.

The last thing student should do after conferences is to take their parents to see the artwork in the hallways. Kim will take care of showing student WHERE their artwork is located.

Summer School is May 31 through June 24 this year. The hours and criteria have not yet been determined. Please keep in mind the things that we have talked about at the staff meeting on Wednesday, January 27.

Quickly Approaching

Valentine Parties follow immediately after student-led conferences on February 11. Similar to the winter breakfast, you can ask a parent to be in charge of this party or you can coordinate. An alternative party will be held for those who do not celebrate. More information as the date approaches.

Summative Evaluations

On Wednesday afternoon, I "form shared" all of the summatives and "mini-summatives" with staff who are evaluated using the DESE teacher evaluation schedule as we discussed in the staff meeting. You should be able to log in and complete the data reflection piece for indicators 3.3; 7.2; and 9.2 when you are ready to do so. If you log in and have any difficulty typing into the text boxes, let me know and I'll contact Jane (659-3013) regarding any issues we are having. She is the "go-to" at the board office for TalentEd.

Furniture Requests for Next Year

It's time to begin thinking about next year. I am sure the board office will soon be asking me for furniture and tile requests. Typically they will not order any furniture except if pieces are broken beyond repair or to set up a new section. I am almost certain there will not be money for "extras" that don't fit the "broken beyond repair" criteria. If you have needs, please be sure to let me know by Friday, January 29.

Summer Maintenance Projects

If there are any projects at school that would need to be completed by maintenance this summer- rather than by Shawn or Greg, please see me regarding these by Friday, February 5.

February Staff Appreciation Breakfast

The next Staff Appreciation Breakfast will be held on February 18. Please nominate someone by emailing 2-3 sentences to me as to why that person should be nominated by Friday, January 29.

Required Annual Videos

This is a reminder that staff members are required to annually watch training videos. All training videos must be watched and completion forms submitted by February 1, 2016.

These training videos are required by state law and/or district policy, and you must annually provide confirmation that you have completed each of the training modules.

Staff members in certified positions are required to watch:

  • Confidentiality of Student Information
  • Discrimination, Harassment & Retaliation
  • Identifying Signs of Sexual Abuse in School Children
  • Standard Precautions for Avoiding Infections
  • Student Discipline

Staff members in non-certified positions are required to watch:

  • Confidentiality of Student Information
  • Discrimination, Harassment & Retaliation
  • Identifying Signs of Sexual Abuse in School Children
  • Standard Precautions for Avoiding Infections

You may watch the videos at your convenience by logging in to your SchoolWires account. (If you experience trouble logging in to SchoolWires please contact Jan Lange at 659-3121). Once you have signed in, you can view the videos by selecting the "District Departments" drop-down menu, then selecting "Human Resources", and then finally the "Staff Training Videos" on the left side of the page. Once you have finished watching all required videos, you will log in to TalentEd Records and submit the completion form that is in your "Needs Attention" task list.

As a reminder, TalentEd Records functions best in Google Chrome. Your user name is your firstname.lastname and your password is what you use to log in to your computer each day.

  • Weekly entries should be made into Infinite Campus in each subject area.
  • Be sure to keep your websites up-to-date!
  • I would like copies of all classroom newsletters. These can be sent to me electronically or a paper copy in my mailbox.
  • Please continue to use the clip up tickets, Safe, Respectful, and Responsible Compliment cards (or verbal compliments) keeping the 4:1 in mind!

QUAD D from Grade 4

How would have handled the the trouble with the Teton Sioux? How would you do it differently than Lewis and Clark? Why is your way a better way to have solved this trouble?

QUAD D from Grade 1

You are carrying a crayon box, scissors, pencil, book and erasers in your backpack. Your backpack is too heavy. Use a balance to put the things in order from heaviest to lightest. What you should take out of your backpack? Why should you take that thing out of your backpack?

Please send Quad D activities or questions you have tried
